The good news is that if you think the price doesn't make sense... you don't have to buy one. It amazes me that these same questions aren't asked of the companies that make a 1080P camera for $70K- $250K.

Actually... it is a bit embarrassing for EPIC to be named in the same sentence as the Alexa. A 1080P camera isn't in my thinking. If you want 1080P, take our HD-SDI output and record it to any number of options. But why would you do that?

With orders from a richer RED user customer base and also competitors like an Arri, Panavision, Sony, Aaton, Canon, Panasonic (all they want to see first what is going on there with Epic)...to main world camera rentals it will be about 100 or even more...busy holidays...

I think there are a few heavy weight producers/ directors who will make up a small portion. I hope George Miller is using these right now.

Jim, would you make the Epic Ms coated black (like production R1s) or keep them chrome, like the early R1 prototypes?

I considered stripping my R1 off after having some heat issues, plus how COOL it would be to have that thing C-H-R-O-M-E... but then I thought how much work it would be and gave up :-D

Obviously the 'Production Epics' are so because they are more mass produced
but (and i know the answer to this really) presuming Epic-M's will be fully production ready? minus the functions we know about?

95% of features will be enabled... enough to shoot a feature movie. Firmware upgrades are to be expected.

Part of being an early adopter is paying attention all the way through time. I'm going to post the program here and see who responds. I'm not going to send 10 emails to every customer to see if they are interested. Those that are early and still in will be 1st in line.
