it's my first topic at red world ...

I can't connect by cable. Firwire 800/800 to my MacBookPro and Hard Drive

    I tried more than Cable

When I use Firwire Cable 800/400 it's connected

    400 out of Hard Drive

    800 in to MacBookPro

Hi and welcome, it´s a common problem that the firewire 800 port gets short circuited - the risk of this happening seems to be a lot higher if the drive is not powered by a separate powersupply.

Yours sounds a lot like the FW 800 port on the drive is short circuited, if you want it fixed it would have to go back to RED for repair I suppose.

I have had one of my drives like this for almost 2 years, I just kept on using it, offloading via the fw 400 port.

There seems to be a issue using some reddrives over firewire800 connecting to the new unibody macbookpro . The solution is to use a lexar fw800 reader in between. Use preferably external powersupply on the Reddrive.

Well you have two good answers, but both assume that you are asking about a RED Drive.

Are you using a RED Drive or is this some other type of drive enclosure?

    Alexander Ibrahim ...
I using the red drive and this problem happened by all of my red drives only
but when i connecting to G-saffe or G-raid it's successfully

I guess if I use the Power Adaptor which included by RED-DRIVE maybe success connecting but i fear that be a bad solution or damaging red drive.

Are you advice me to use this Power Adaptor when I connecting to MAC BOOK PRO by FW800 Cable ?
