heheh...you're right, it comes from the french phrase "la premiere," which means "the first," as in the first showing or public performance of a movie, and in that case "premiere" is a feminine word, not masculine (masculine is "premier" without the 'e' at the end). FYI...heheh

To be exactly correctly precisely right, the French word is spelled Première. So the proper intellectual may write it with accent.
