I was gifted with an iPad, and After a couple of days, I am all for it.

It's a much more fun gadget than I'd have imagined.

So what are your "must have" apps and uses for the iPad?
I guess you aren't all only using it as a digital slate and lightsource...

    Cheers!

Congrats Gunleik, that's a nice gift!

My buddy has a rental company here in Istanbul and he just got a Teradek video transmitter. Although there is currently a latency of 10 seconds (they are working on that), we are planning on using the ipad as a wireless monitor with the Teradek. Soon, there will be an option for playing back footage as soon as you cut the camera. I believe they are beta testing that now. So, the ipad will take the place of director's playback deck on set. Pretty cool :)

We'll try something like that on the production that starts shooting right after new year.

And it is a cool gift... I had planned to wait for one with a cam, but here I am typing away on my new toy... And I haven't been missing the cam... Yet.

Movie Slate for sure. By far my favourite app for filmmakers. May look like a toy at first, but it's really powerful with a lot of cool features.

Also, I like Minimal Folio for portfolio purposes.

SunSeeker is pretty neat if you need to know where that light is coming from.

And, Angry Birds. Time (and birds) flies with this one.

Gunleik, I highly recommend purchasing Form Tools PDF for iPads. It's a great PDF utility that lets you sign location agreements, release forms, or any other types of PDFs right on the iPad screen. I've found it extremely useful in going paperless on set, as I can have a cast of 10 people sign the same release form 10 times over, really quickly.

I checked it out, and honestly wasn't that impressed. It's nice to have a way to do forms on the iPad, I'll give it that. Also cool it's made by a local guy (you know him, right?). But why does it not support actual PDF form documents? If I could create a form in Acrobat and load it into this app and it just works, then it would be worth every penny.

Maybe I shouldn't knock it too much... My iPad camera tools app has been attempting approval from Apple since the last week of May. I've scaled it down, it does a lot less, I've re-written it a few times. Finally heard from Apple as to why they wouldn't accept it -- the interface. So that turned into a few lengthy back and forth emails and a 2 hour conference call. All sorted now and they seem willing to approve it... If I ever fix a few things and re-submit. I haven't had time to do it lately with other things. I have two other iOS projects going for clients and can only stare at so much code in a day.

So, yeah, my upcoming app that may get released whenever might be something you would be interested in... Hehe.

If you like silly games or have kids, check out Cut The Rope.

Unreal Citadel is cool in that it shows what an iPad can do. And actually not even all it can do. One of my current projects uses the GPU heavily on the iPad for computational tasks. It's pretty mind-blowing what you can squeeze out of this thing.

Apparently he's adding PDF Form support in the next release or two. I guess it's not very easy, haha. But yeah, that'd make the app that much cooler.
