I have been handed a Red project that had very poor data management. Everything was all over the place. The proxies that are in teh RDC folders just show black frames. If I delete the proxies and regenerate them in Red Alert they play fine. There's about 415 shots that I need to do this for. I've tried Red Rushes and Clipfinder and neither will do anything.

In Red Rushes I click "Add Clips" and add the folders the RDM folders are in. Then I click QT Wrappers in the menu and then "Make All Wrappers". I get a spinning beach bowl for about 5 seconds and then nothing. No proxies are made.

In Clipfinder I add all the RDM or RDC folders (either way I do it it shows the currect directory path). I get an error telling me I need to generate proxies by pressing command-A and then Alt-Command-A. When I do that nothing happens. I also tried "Make Quicktimes" in the menu.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how I can fix it? The original directory structure of the Red Raw folders when this was handed to me was Volumes/Mine HD1/MINE DAY01/FOOTAGE/MINE REEL001/A001_0426VW.RDM/A001_C001_0426NM.RDC for example. I've tried changing the path folders to all one word with no non-alphanumeric characters or spaces. I've also tried moving the RDM folders to the root of the drive. Still no luck.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you open the proxies in quicktime 7 or quicktime 10. Sometimes QTX plays them back as black frames (especially if your using quickview to preview). If you need/want to generate new proxies, use Clipfinder.

Can you post a screen shot of the current directory structure, as you received it? It will make it a lot easier for people to help.

RED Alert and REDrushes have been obsolete for a long time. They only work on footage from Build 21 or lower cameras. If the footage was shot with Build 30, neither program will work properly. You should be using REDCINE-X.

Here's some help on regenerating proxies in REDCINE-X:

Thanks for helping out guys. There were 2 issues it looks like. Quciktime Player X would not play the old proxies, and Quicktime Pro 7 would.

The camera was a newer build and that's why Red Rushes wasn't working, and also probably why Clipfinder wasn't working, I suspect. I figured out the RedCine-X process and all is good. I have new proxies and they even play in Quicktime Player X now.

Thanks so much for your help!

You can probably get Clipfinder working again by installing the RED Final Cut Studio 3 Installer:
