How does the ordering and BTO / configuration work at RED ? How easy is it to understand what options are available and which ones are the right ones?

Scarlet Cinema is still coming, just after the fixed. Unless they can't replace the fixed lens parts from Japan soon enough. The Japan disaster has caused problems for everybody.

Judging from this interview, it looks like the Scarlet Cinema has been canned: http://www.macvideo.tv/camera-techno...icleId=3276182

If so, I think it's a great shame but i'm not surprised. The Scarlet Cinema offered insanely good specs for the money, not least a set of fast primes for under $5k. That combo would have more than likely seriously effected EPIC-S sales. O.K. you lose 2k res, but to have 3K 120fps, HDRx & cheap, fast primes is very compelling for those on low budgets. With the Epic-S you are looking at a much greater outlay in terms of glass & accessories to get to a similar level.

If this is true, I suspect that it's a business descision because they want the Epic-S to 'compete' (yeah, I know..) with the Sony F3 etc.. and the Scarlet Cinema was maybe giving too much at too low a price - all speculation of course.

A few people keep saying this but there is a lot of reason to believe that Ted may have misunderstood the question or simply misspoke. Anyone who attended NAB probably had more than one conversation with RED personnel which would have confirmed that the RED CInema is still coming. I know I did. Plus, they proudly showed off the mini-prime lens set which, AFAIK, would be pretty useless in the RED ecosystem if there weren't to be a camera on which to to use them. I will agree with David's assertion that the RED Cinema is still coming; originally planned for release after the Fixed but with the lens parts being a holdup for that, perhaps the Cinema will come earlier. At this point, nobody knows outside of RED and even they may not yet have a clear picture.

In another thread, I raised the concerns that the 'interchangeable' might have been scrapped, and suggested that it would be a good idea for Red to clarify this.
Quite a lot of people replied that it is not Red's policy to respond to every baseless rumor.

I think the clip above represents more than just idle gossip.

Here is a representative of Red clearly saying that the Scarlet product line is entirely fixed lens - that all interchangeable models are within the Epic line, and that the interchangeable Scarlet has evolved into the Epic S.

It would be very surprising if Red's main demonstrator of the Scarlet camera misunderstood the basic product models.

And if he simply misspoke, when announcing the scrapping of a much anticipated model in the product range, I would have thought that someone in Red might feel it necessary to correct this mistake.

In another thread, where it was announced that the Red fixed would be delayed due to problems of availability of lens parts, many people suggested that the logical solution would be to release the interchangeable 'Cinema' model first.
    Again no response from Red.

Of course Red is a private company which has the right to produce whatever products they want, as they want, when they want, and they don't have to tell us anything.

The problem is that the Scarlet Interchangeable has been in the planning for a long time now. Am I right that in fact the 3k Scarlet was in the planning even before the Epic? I seem to think so.

    We've seen the lenses.

    We've seen the footage.

And some of us want one of them.

The only information to come out of Red about the Scarlet Cinema in the last six months is in this interview with Ted.

So I'm confused. And I'm surely not the only person.

I guess you will just have to believe what you want, based on the information you have.

There have been pictures posted in one of the threads here of two Scarlet Cinemas with mini-primes mounted on an ET Neutron 3D rig with the observation that it will be the lightest high resolution 3d rig available for steadicam use. Some 20 lbs lighter than the Epic version with an all up weight of around 55lbs.
