Australiasian Digital Cinema - A RED user group ?
how was the screening? was it a one off event or is it left in place? wonder if you hear anything on HD theatre development downunder
Mike,
I was looking for your reference about starting up a workflow issues site. anymore on that?
It sounds a great idea. I've got lots to discuss....question really, around that, not so much from a problematic perspective but from a choices in workflow and looking at where the quality hits are.
I was a bit surprised when this guy posted a simple request here and there was so much conjecture or how to output from red to dvpro50.
Also very much like Rocketeer's site. On something completely different...I was thinking, but I guess it's too hard (without a commercial or love perspective) of a daily summary of what's gone on, on the reduser forum.
You want people knocking down a door to your site, give 'um the up to date skinny of what's going on/revealed on reduser forum.
Whatever's done site wise by different folks, I'd love to see mirrors?...or links to these sites on the local red user site. Like a frame on home page with the title, summary etc going off to full information.
Also, Seth's talking about having a faq plus I'm assuming some overall explanations of redcamera and redcine workflow..dunno, on a user group site.
Hopefully with the blessing of group, a value add site will be created.
This as well as a bucket load of other things i.e. user name/assoc stuff etc are obviously all topics for us to discuss and agree.
Back to the more mundane...love lots of the name suggestions.
I guess we could give it a few more days/week and then vote. Thoughts?
On the user group site suggestions, in addition to stuff above I'd personally like to see:
password protected member contact list/ camera availability calendar(need to talk on this one???)
local 4K post services.
Other red workflow presentations/technical/ education information
RED accessory product summary
Events
As Rocketeer mentioned it'll be interesting to see if Australasian distributer/service agent is appointed for region.
However where as I expect a lot of overlap, that will be from a red corporate down, where the user group is back other way.
Back to that name....
Dave,
ps: and I'm aware we missed our group telephone hookup...next week?
Thanks David, I started the blog as a repository for Red info after I could never find the details of a post I had read. I wanted somewhere central I could refer to. The wheels have come off after spending 10 days in the States and offline.
The noise to signal ratio on this site has increased dramatically making it harder to find the gold. And more often than not you find yourself posting "Yeah what Mike Curtis said" :)
On Wednesday at NAB I spoke to Stuart English about international support and the only option (at that stage) he could offer up was returning gear to the States.
If they do apoint agents how much access will they be given to the camera?
Will local servicing be viable? What degree of access will technicians be given to the Red? Will agents just be given spare bodies, VF and LCD as swap outs?
Will they have to buy them?
But to put it in perspective, we carry 2 Sony F900R's. Sony NZ don't carry a body in case we have a fault. I have to cross hire from another rental company (good week the 2nd camera is working too!). The Sony warranty won't cover that cost. But...I do have access to the Sony Engineer...but parts will more than likely come out of Hong Kong(our support hub now) or Japan. 2-5 days freight max. Let's be optimistic and say 5 days to diagnose the fault, get parts and repair. The cross hire has cost me 10k. Ouch.
Any Red return to the states is going to be 10 days minimum. The upside is the cross hire won't cost you your first born.
For us and other international owners it is important we are given some indication of what will be in place for support while the camera is under warranty (which I don't think Red have indicated a length of time for warranty)
Let’s not lose momentum in this user group.
Here’s a summary of the suggested names so far:
REDANZ
ANZRUG
RUGANZ
ARUG
COLOR CLUB
REDAUS
REDEANZ
ANZRUA
DURUG (Down Under Red User Group)
DRUG (Downunder Red User Group)
REDPACIFIC
RED Indians - REDINDIANZ - REDINDEANZ
ADCRUG (Australiasian Digital Cinema - A RED user group)
Any more suggestions before we vote?
Rocketeer,
I'm curious to know, will the Wellington branch of Rocket Rentals be offering Red hire in the near future?
