Sorry I have been on a viper shoot...
I love DRUG but I fear Spam filters will stop any emails so

    PacificRED or

    ANZRUG sounds direct?

    Red Oceanic Cinema

    Red Oceanic Group

The name should also describe our goals and pursuits as a group.
.er, okay the above doesn't really….but ‘user group’ strikes me as a bit limiting and lame.

    Dave,
    I agree,

I've set up the web server (with a temp domain name) and installed vBulletin (same software as reduser). The server is online, and I've created a temp skin etc. It's all waiting for a proper domain name, and some ideas.

This is what I'd like to see happen here (purely self orientated goals). I've said most of this before, I just want to list it all here so that everyone is clear on what I'd like to offer/see from this endeavour..

I'm up for hosting the website/forum, and I'd like it to be a place that all of us down under folk can go to to collate and talk all things Red. BUT I'm also interested in not limiting it to Red only. Digital Cinema yes, but I don't see why we should limit ourselves to only listing Red news. I see it more as a DVXuser downunder, with a bit of HDforindies thrown in in the way of collated articles and info that is easy to trawl thru, rather than only 50+ page threads which take hours to read. For instance, I am in negotiations to Post Supervise (posssibly) on an Australian feature, and if we can't get the RED in time, then the second choice is the Viper, In which case I'd be interested in sharing info in Viper workflows etc.

In this vein, I'd prefer the name to have 'Digital Cinema' in it, rather than Red. Of course Red will be the main focus anyway, this approach just leaves us with the most amount of options in the future.

Now, I don't know if the website name *needs* to be the same as the User group name. i.e If for instance we call the website "Oceanic Digital Cinema" (My current favourite), then we can still have section on the board named "Oceanic Red User Group" or what have you.. (this is just an option, I would like to know what everyone would want from the board in terms of content.)

So, I just wanted to make sure we're all on the same page here.

My main preference for choosing a name for the actual site (as opposed to the group), is that it is not limiting, it's descriptive, and that the actual domain is available.

    eg :

I like "Oceanic Digital Cinema", but "odcinema.net" is taken.
I like "Digital Cinema Oceanic", (although not as much) but "digitalco.net" is taken. (edit: digitalco.net is NOT taken, the .com is)
"odcforum.net" is available .. but I don't really like the word forum in the url (again, limiting)

Let me know what you all think.
    Seth.

Id prefer RED users only thanks. Otherwise it will be just another DV users group

We had a meeting with 3 REDs in Perth on Friday. Hopefully we will be swapping info, ideas and possibly gear once our REDs arrive.

    www.odcnetwork.org
    &
    www.odcnetwork.net.au

    are available.

Perhaps under one of these, we could even explore financing & distribution options etc?

    What do you think?

I think Seth's idea of keeping it as open as possible, is good.
Reduser.net will always be first point of call! But for local issues this would be good.

Glad you agree Terry. I don't think it will become anything like dvxuser. What we're after is something that serves our needs as a local community. I don't see why we should limit ourselves in any way. The important factor here for me is "local"..

As I said, I will be pushing the RED hard. I am also more interested in talking RED shop than anything else, but, there will be projects that we will all be involved in that are not RED related, in which case it would be good to have the option.

odcnetwork .. not bad, shame the .net is not avail.

Financing and distribution options, excellent idea ! .. A perfect example of something we should be able to discuss.

Keep em coming ! Ideas, name suggestion s (website AND usergroup), comments ..

David and anyone else in Sydney who wants to hire their kit out or needs access to extra / backups cams:

I'd suggest talking to the Camera Collective, 4 doors up from Lemac. They have the infastructure already in place to handle this kind deal I think and already ship cameras and kit all around the Pacific region. You should find them rather RED aware.
