I'm wondering about the low light characteristics of the 2/3rd's Scarlet.

I'm going to somewhat optimistically guess it will be rated 320 to possibly 400 (ASA/ISO).

I'm saying this b/c while the SI-2K is rated around 200 the Scarlet uses a chip w/ much lower noise floor, FWIU.

    ISO 640 or 800. Just a guess.

The MX seems to be rated at 800, but as the the pixels on the Scarlet 2/3" possibly are smaller than on the S35 variations, I'd espect it to be lower.

I expect it will be the same as the other MX sensors since the technology is the same.
These are still rated ISO 320 base as was the Red 1 M. That places 18% gray 5 stops below clipping according to David Mullen's tests of Red 1 MX if I remember correctly.
From what I have read, most camera manufacturers place base ISO rating 3 stops below clipping.

David - I thought the base on MX was 800. Did I misinterpret all the discussion around the better low light characteristics of the MX over the M?

People are shooting at 800 to get more highlight headroom and that would probably place 18% gray in the middle of the available 13+ stop dynamic range. Makes practical sense. There is no question that the noise floor for R1 MX is at least 1-1/2 stops better than M. With the new electronics in Epic and Scarlet that should be even better.

One of the more unique qualities I love about Red's approach to exposure is that ISO is just meta data. Changing ISO by itself does not alter what the camera records at all. Only light, aperture, frame rate, and shutter speed affect exposure directly. A true photographer's instrument.
