Same here,i`ve got a potential use of quite high numbers of such a camera that somehow i have to fulfill.I`d like it to be a RED solution.i`m by no means an expert but what`s out there most certainly doesn`t seem fit the bill at all..for example Iconix looked interesting re quality etc but it`s quite a price and needs external bulky electronics (i think)..A 2/3rd`s based solution stripped to basics and small would be fab.
To be honest i hope Jim`s not rolling his eye`s at the gist of this thread,i`m more than certain he`s full steam ahead and super occupied with Epic right now, however i also hope he will give it some thought when possible..so far the posts indicate there`s a real interest.Got my fingers gently crossed..

Cool concept, Eren. I hope Red doesn't overlook this sector of the market. There are CAR-15's, Nascar chassis, The insides of Hummers and MRAPS, and a lot more places just waiting for a RedCode powered, 3K+ sensor.

I suggest hopping over to other sites and checking the sizes for high quality 2/3" cameras with internal recording and power.
    Then the ones shooting raw.

A-cam is stripped to basics and still roughly the same volume as Scarlet if not larger, only in a different arrangement. Iconix is 1/3" and just a head, plus its picture is far from high quality, so it's not really comparable.

If Red can go even smaller cool...but Scarlet was already imagined to be a pocket cam...I'd say that current Scarlet form factor already IS the smallest it can get with today's available and financially feasible technology, and a pretty large breakthrough which people seem to take as something usual. Reason I suggested this particular combination is because it would use majority of Scarlet parts and could be made in near future.

I know what you're saying Hrvoje, however i still think a go pro-ish concept is still feasible bearing the following in mind:

-No onboard debayering whatsoever. That means no powerful heat generating asics to convert the sensor data to scaled RGB in real time. I t also means no lemo port(s).

-Limited data rate: Keep it small, simple and cool (as in temperature)

-The time frame that this camera would be tackled in (after monstro-5/6 years?). Moore's law. Size/costs go down, horsepower goes up in 18 month cycles. You develop two iterations of the same concept at the same time, a starter model and a more refined, powerful follow up. This is what Intel refers to as "Tick-Tock" (I remember talking to some pretty knowledgable guys during a shoot in the Intel fab in Israel about Nehalem and Sandy Bridge back in 2007)

MX (Tick) Monstro (Tock)*. After 28K cameras are achieved I think that the next step will be in refining/miniturising their tech for a new wave of post DSMC cameras (either as a second separate line of DSMC cameras and/or a group of niche cameras like the GoPro and the Phantom)

Hmm...this is making me want to work on a more polished render now :)

*I think the original Mysterium sensor was very much an experimental piece of technology. Jim took a hail mary pass on it, got some real smart/dedicated folks together and they made the platform work though sheer force of will power: hence Jim talking about how they're dangerous now that they know what they're doing.

Can you imagine a micro 3 D rig that could come out of this and the possibilities?
