I wonder if Ted or someone at RED could tell us what the resolution would be for stills on the RED Scarlet 3K and other cameras?

I don't know if it is the full available resolution or not, but a frame from the Felix clip is 3072 x 1536. Expect something between about 4.5 and 5 mega pixels.

Everyone is very occupied with tomorrow, next week, next month, next year.
Just today, we forget to be happy. Every day again, be happy, today, be happy...
    The sunset was wonderful...

I guess that the stills are between 6 & 8 mpixels.

On what do you base that guess? As people have said, the resolution of the sensor is 3072 x 1620. It is possible there is a bit of look around in that figure but, even if so, the sensor is not likely to be much larger than that.

Because the sensor on a RED ONE should allow 8 mpixels pics.

But the sensor on a RED ONE, whether M or MX, is much bigger than the Scarlet sensor. It's a totally different sensor. I am still not sure I understand your reasoning

A concept people seem to still have a hard time grasping is that there is no difference in a motion frame and a still frame for these cameras. They shoot motion raw at their full resolution and can crop to different formats, but it is not like a hybrid stills/video camera where there is a completely different resolution mode for each.

I was led to believe that there was not going to be no cropping. If you choose HD1080 then the full area of the sensor is still utilized.

I was wondering if the sensor is pegged back in it's resolution for video, whereas digital stills go the full hog.

It must be right that the frame size of stills must match the same as video. I guess if you want the 3K Scarlet to create stills greater than 5MP, then it's best to get a professional digital stills camera or go for one of the high-end Scarlet's or Epic's.

The sensor is 3K and that's all there is.

So, what you end up with, in stills or video frames, as has been stated, is around 5 MP or so. Why would that indicate any cropping? I believe that the 1080P output will be the result of an in-camera down-rez, but I could be wrong on that. I don't, however, think it is the result of windowing the sensor.
