    Hi !

So I experimented now a lot and running in different issues and ask for help or input....

We edited something in Mediacomposer 5 with DNxHD 115 (24p) MXF Files generated by RCX. Now I want to bring that to AE without Automatic Duck but it seems that will be problematic. I want to do the DI in AE.

    My first try:
Exported an AAF from MC5 with Videotracks only and Link to the original Media.
Tried to open that in Premiere Pro. It crashes.... didnt try the media copy function, but I think PPRO has troubles with the MXF files....
At this production we had no AMA Import so, a relink to the R3D in MC5 seems not possible....

    Second Try:
Exported an EDL (both File16 and CMX3600) imported that (file16) in PPRO.
Construct loaded. The relink function in PPRO seem to be poor, so I relinked every clip by hand. Now I have Timeline there with the correct edit linking to the RAW files. When I then send this timeline to AE I get one single track in the composition without cuts. It seems to play correctly with the edit points but as said it is a single closed track. Not so good.... When I look into PPRO it seems that the construct on the timeline is correct with edits, but when I double click a edited clip on the timeline it shows in the editing window not really an in or outpoint... really strange....

    Third try:
I imported the CMX3600 EDL into Final Cut to export an XML and relink that with clipfinder.... really problematic this route as well... First FCP doesnt let me change the sequence to 24p. ONLY 23,976 ???? I can change the source settings to for example Prores 24p but the sequence timebase is grayed out to 23,976... same in color where I run in other problems as well....
When I imported the EDL into PPRO and export an FCP XML to relink this with clipfinder I get an ERROR message when importing that with the PI_FCP2AE plugin....

So.... does anybody please have an Idea of an working conforming workflow from Mediacomposer 5 to AE without Automatic Duck ??? If not the only way is to buy it...
BUT then I have my offline EDIT there and HOW to relink this there to the RAW Files ????

    Any Help is wormly welcome...

    thx
    Rainer

Go the EDL route with Premiere Pro and then use File > Import > Premiere Pro project..." in AE.

That should give you one layer per edit.

For AE to FCP you can try this:

As for the frame rate issue, are you sure it was shot in 24 fps, not 23.976? (I think the RED ONE rounds it to 23.98 for the on-camera settings display.) Most of the time these days, unless a shoot is known to be going to filmout, it will be shot at 23.976.

I sure know it is 24p.....

I will give the premiere pro project import a hit, but I think it will not differ from import and selecting the PPRO file.....

    anyone else ???

Would be great to have the possibility to let you all sit down around our workstation.... and giving out some good beer.... ;)

For import from Premiere in AE with individual layers, copy all clip in Premiere timeline and paste in AE timeline. That works for me.

THX A LOT !!! That worked like a charme !!!!

A more automated conforming workflow would be nice.... loading the EDL from Mediacomposer and relinking it by hand in PPRO and copying the edit into layers in AE is not that comfortable but it works.... missing thing here is the new color science with redcolor2 and redlogfilm/redgamma2....
What a pitty that the exported XML from PPRO and conforming it with clipfinder doesn't work at reimport of the conformed XML..... didn't find out if it is a formatting problem or a typo thing in the filenames....

I'm glad, but is an old trick, I remember use it with Premiere 2 and After Effects 7, before of Dynamic Link.

If I understand what you are doing, you can also take it into PPro, then select the timeline and choose "replace with AE composition". It will take you to AE, where there is a comp with one layer per edit.

I work on windows and use Avid's Quicktime LE codecs for avid DNxHD. This puts the files into mov containers. You can export these via redcine-x (via quicktime), and AE/premiere reads and writes these just fine. I also had difficulty with the avid mxfs directly from redcine-x with vegas, not sure if I attempted to use them with adobe apps..
