We finally got our SmallHD DP6 to work. It took awhile due to a problem with HDMI cables.
We first tested using a 10ft. HDMI 1.3 cable. That didnt work.
We almost gave up on the unit and was close to sending it back.
The boss however came in this morning with a 3ft. HDMI 1.4 cable from bluejeanscable dot com.
That cable worked without any hang-ups.
Of course you have to make sure you power up the DP6 first then the RED MX.
During all that we received our accessories shipment from SmallHD, BTW the best at delivering their goods to date ;)
The 3ft. cable we purchased didn't work either.
So I guess my post is to warn others out there, unless of course this was already documented and I was too lazy to search REDUSER dot net :)

After numerous tests. We found our RED MX outputs ONLY using HDMI cable > HDMI Converter > Display (using DVI Input).
We tried a few displays via straight thru HDMI and none of them work.
The cool thing is that it works with the menus too :)
Strange that we still cant get the DP6 to work with other HDMI cables.
We have to lock the one single 3footer (that works) away for field use :)

Hmmm, I just got a 3 footer from Radio Shack and it's the RS brand and it works. I have also used the 8 footer off my kids Playstation with no problems.

    Good luck,

Anyway - it would be nice to know exactly why the HDMI port on the R1 doesn't live up to the standard. I've heard multiple vendors of accessories say that their device(s) do not work with the RED because the HDMI port is non-standard; Teradek being just one of them

**Cube is not compatible with RED ONE’s HDMI output as its output is non-standard. Cube works beautifully with RED ONE’s HD-SDI.

Are you using a SmallHD DP6-SDI unit?

I'm also curious about this. I wonder what makes it a non standard HDMI and why? Its never been a problem for me, but would be nice to get to the bottom of it anyway. Anyone have any ideas?

Someone from Red would have to confirm but from what I understand, since RedOne is a computer it generates computer signal, VESA compliant, not SMPTE compliant. It does have video/DVI option in the menu but I think it has to do with what's on display rather than switching to SMPTE standard. That's why most of devices deignaed for computers work and devices designed exclusively for video, not always.

The HDMI connector output is compatible, but not compliant with HDMI specs. So what does that mean?

It does not used HDCP, and it is not restricted to 1280 x 720, so some monitors won't lock to it when you select the DVI(Menus).

    It that case it's outputting 1280 x 848, not 1280 x 720 pixels.

    So much for my guessing
So HDCP is the real issue here- good to know...
That has nothing to do with Red BTW
