Film student in DC

Hi, I'm a film student in the DC area. It recently dawned on me (as I'm a transfer and this is my first semester in this area) that I'm one of the few film students that is obsessed with film.

If anyone in the DC area owns a RED One, I'd be willing to work out some form of payment / donation to get some more experience with the camera. I don't expect to use the camera outside of your presence, but if you do own a RED and have a free day most weeks, I'd love to drive to where ever and learn something new. I don't want to rent the camera yet, otherwise I'd look at rental options. I just wanted to check to see if there was a professional in the area who would want a competent and eager apprentice for a day or more.

I can help you guys out but it would be with the Epic, not the Red One. I don't need help on any shoots at the moment but if you want to drive up to Frederick I can let you get in a little time on the camera. No payment necessary but feel free to buy me lunch. ;)

As far as a DC source you could try DC camera (to rent) Erich is a great guy and his shop has a lot of great stuff.

Adam, are you in Frederick MD? I live there as well. We should have a group meet up in the area, I didn't think there were many other shooters up this way so it's always nice to meet new people.

I can second that comment regarding Erich and DC-Camera. I also want to point out my own rental gear www.kvmrentals. I have a huge selection of lenses, ones that Erich does not have. When A-Star gets the EPIC mount finished, I will be able to offer that, and I may get it the current A-Star RED ONE mount for those who still have a RED One.

As far as the OPs question on film work in DC, there are only a few REDs in the area that I know of. I would suggest getting into the DC film groups such as TIVA, WIFV, the Creative Alliance in Baltimore, DC Film Salon, Briandragonuk, etc..

Most work in DC consists of industrials and docs, owing to the gov't and Discovery/Nat Geo. Very little narrative work. What's there is usually micro budget (A feature to be shot on the RED starting a 3 week shoot today).

Adam: hells yeah. But I only have one in PL mount. Need to wait for the A-Star to add the EPIC version of their RED mount system so I can test out my BNCR and OCT19 mounted lenses. But after that. Hells yeah!
