Having a minor on set issue with our Rocket. It's actually a persistent issue that we haven't needed to resolve until now.

I've got a 2008 Mac Pro with a Red Rocket installed that we've been using to debayer and transcode our Red footage. The firmware is out of date and we're still using RedCine build 1740. Given the setup of our company, I am currently unable to install anything.

I've got a Flanders Scientific LM-1770W sitting next to me, connected to the rocket via SDI cable.

Thing is, no matter what I do in either Final Cut or RedCine, the Flanders only shows a green screen.

And I basically have no idea what settings to try changing or where to find them in order to resolve this issue.

Can anyone point me towards any driver or display or preference settings that I should try altering to get the right signal out of the SDI connection?

    Hi Nick-
    1. 1740 build was actually ROCKET CINE- X which has been (EOL'd) end of line and no longer supported. RED has migrated all those features to REDCINE-X which is currently on build 356 and every few builds,. requires new drivers and firmware updates."

Not sure I understand how the structure of your company works but you are going to have to download and install the updated rocket drivers and firmware as im convinced thats your issue

    Good luck

Final cut doesn't use the Rocket.

I don't recall if Rocketcine 1740 (now EOL, no longer supported) had all of the SDI functionality working. However, if your drivers are out of date in relation to that software, which is possible as there were several updates through there, then it's not going to work. Company politics aside, I'm not really sure why you couldn't install anything or what you mean by that.

If you're seeing green out of the Rocket, that means it has a link to the Rocket, but no actual display mode has been engaged.

Best advice I can give is to visit RED.COM/support and download the latest RED Rocket installer package and install the drivers, then the firmware. Then download and install REDCINE-X v3.5.6 and go from there. Most of us here probably don't have the old Rocketcine 1740 still installed on a system to reference -- that was like a year ago.

Large company. Tech updates move slowly. Believe me, I'd get us up to date if I could, but we are locked out and usually 6-months to a year behind on software updates. Hell, we're still on 10.5.8.

So yes, I'd love to update the driver. But I can't.

However, if there is a way to get Rocketcine-X to output over SDI, that'd be fantastic.

    Nick,

Stay on 10.5 with your 2008 Mac Pro and Rocket. 10.6 on 2008 Mac Pro has serious issues with Rocket. Played that game and downgrade solved every issue.

You really need to upgrade to the latest version of RedcineX and Rocket Firmware and Rocket Drivers. Latest stuff on 10.5 on Mac Pro 2008 works great.

Aside from an occasional crash, really, everything here is stable. Just be nice to have an external calibrated monitor for one-lights and grading, is all.

Is there ANY control panel I can access that would tell it (how) to send a signal out through the SDI?

Make sure you are in a YUV color format setting and not RGB color format setting and for your output and maybe check the PsF, but the Flanders should have no problem with progressive vs PsF.
