Any ideas on mounting a shotgun mic on the Red body?

I think screwing in a boom mic holder somewhere would be the easy solution.

Yeah you want something elegant and small eh. I can imagine it is possible to mount some mic monster to the rails but I would also love to hear of a great solution for mounting a shotgun mic lightweight and in close to the cam.
I suppose we'll have to wait until audio is enabled to get RED owners experimenting with mic mounting.. (next build Jim said :-)

I have found the Rycote multimount pretty effective. They have a 3/8" Whitworth hole tapped into the support once you unscrew the hotshoe mount so it should be straightforward to mount to the RedOne. It is a simple suspension but very effective and certainly far far better at decoupling the microphone from the camera than conventional on camera mic mounts. B&H sell them.

The base of a Red Handle is a perfect way to attach all sorts of things to the rails...red or some 3rd party should make a screw in mic mount for threading right into a red handle base with the handle removed...I already tried this proto-type style...very solid on top mounted 19" rods...the adjustable angle set is perfect for a forward facing microphone on right rail (as you face the action with cam on shoulder) toward front of cam...

This is the solution I use, and it works perfectly for EFP/ENG:

1) Get a hot shoe extension mount with a 1/4"-20 Thread on the bottom of the extension shoe.

Attach this to either a universal mount, or the Red cradle base plate using a RED 1/4 -20 screw.

2) Use a shotgun mount with a horse shoe on the bottom for your mic, attach it to the horse shoe extension bar.

ok, this may be a little weird, but I like it for 2 reasons: 1) because it gets the mic away from the fan noise...2) it's mobile -- it quick releases, so that it can be used like a pistol grip, either by myself or by an assistant, to move the mic closer to the audio source without much or any handling noise. No unscrewing of the mount or unplugging of the XLR cables is required to move it.

1) attach Zacuto MicroMount (which I already owned) to a 15mm top rod
2) screw this handle, or similar into it (also already owned it) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...Hand_Grip.html
3) add Rycote multimount for directionality

It is a little pricey, if you don't already own the components, but highly mobile and adds space between the fan noise and the mic....

I got a Azden SMH-1 Shock Mount for $40 - took off the shoe and stuck it on my extra RED arm. I had to take out the threads on the arm and insert a bolt through the mount into the arm and it works perfect. Light and cheap!

A Noga (Israeli) arm works for me. Any of the RED arms would work the same.
