    Hey all,

Recently shot with anamorphic lenses (2.35) on a RED MX and am now transcoding the 4k files to Apple Pro Res HQ to edit.

My question is what is the best program (REDrushes, REDCINE, FCP, etc.) to get files that are closest to the original footage in aspect ratio without any squash.

I've tried tests using REDrushes rendering out at 1/16 based off the original frame size (2816 x2304) then clicking "anamorphic" in FCP on the sequence settings... but it only adjusts to 16:9 so it's still squashed. Using the distort brings it to the proper ratio but then you have to render...

I've also tried using REDrushes resize capability and rendering out at 1920 x 800 but it cut the frame at the top and bottom and still looks squished.

My latest test was using REDrushes, resizing, but keeping the height. This gave me a file that needed to be stretched and it played funny and wound up settling far screen right.

    Any help is appreciated.

I had an anamorphic job a few weeks ago and futzed around with the settings until I got the results I wanted:

Basically you want 2:35.1, unsqueezed and letterboxed in a 1920x1080 frame, so you can edit without rendering in FCP

    You need to use RedCine-X

First, go into the Framing Control panel in RC-X and set Crop to Center Crop, Source Resolution to double whatever your "squeezed" anamorphic source files are, and Lock Aspect Ratio to 16:9

Then go to your Export Presets and click on the "+" button, which gives you access to your Export Settings. Pick your flavor of ProRes (make sure you set it to the right Frame Rate), debayer level, turn off all the Audio channels except the ones you need (if any) and name the Preset.

Also make sure you click "Apply" in your Framing Presets, back where your Framing Controls are.

Let 1 transcode and see if it comes out right, good luck

And ditch RedRushes, it used to be the bomb but it's way obsolete now, RC-X is awesome
