  1. #1 LED or LCD: Cheap on-location monitor
    Hi all. . .

Our trusty ol' 23" Samsung LCD TV just died and we went shopping for a replacement today. I'm only interested in the cheapies, as we only use it for playback, framing, and sometimes remote focus-pulling using the Birger.

So, the question is this: The LEDs seem a lot brighter and appear to have a wider viewing angle. Is there some reason I should stay away from an LED TV or computer monitor?

FYI, we run an HDMI cable out of our REDs.

FWIW I just picked up a 20" LG LCD (1600x900) that I use with a HDMI to DVI cable and it displays the 1280x848 at native resolution nicely with menus etc. and of course does the blow up just like the EVF for critical focus. I like it and it only cost 159.00 (actually it was 125 as it was a floor model :–)

    Model is W2040T-PN

Better angles are due to improved panels. Viewing angle is not directly related to backlight technology.

For this purpose no, unless you like burning Watts. :)
