Ugh. That breaks my heart. Having worked with that same pilot (I think) before a bunch of times, It's just hard to believe. He was always extremely cautious, and safety (of both people and gear) was paramount. $hit happens, and gear fails, I suppose.

Jim Jannard's email to me after the crash basically said, "Shit happens, we'll get you a new one." Like a boss.

One thing I noticed is, now that I have the redmote, it seems like I don't need the side handle any more. I took it off. Redmote has the same buttons and stuff. And now, the button for Magnify is over to the camera-left side of the camera, closer to the lens... a little easier to press. The User 1 & 2 buttons are apparently not assignable yet, but Deanan told me he was probably going to make those assignable soon.

Ooof... that made my stomach turn a little bit just imagining that.

Out of curiosity, does that imply that Jim allowed you a place back in line and accepted your insurance payment on a new one, or that Jim actually spotted up a new camera for you?

Not, of course, that anybody should expect the latter (ever) or take that a implication that Red is in the business of freely replacing cameras... but if Jim made this one-time gesture, that's _AWESOME_.

I wonder if you could even get insurance on cameras that are flying on RC rigs? The people flying these rigs must have some kind of liability insurance but I doubt the rigs themselves can get covered? I would think the deductible would be very high if you could get covered? Correct me if I am wrong. When you apply for life insurance they say: We cannot cover you if you partake in dangerous activities like: skydiving, car racing, piloting an aircraft - etc....
