Hi Rainer, thanks for sharing.
It may not be the first music video done with the RED, but I feel it's the best to date. Refreshingly careful attention to framing and focus.
I have no issue with the current clipping to white at all... don't see what the fuss is, and with the knowledge that more can be done with the image it's a moot point. I'm not sure why we would need to see more detail in those overexposed areas in the first place...
The only issue I agree with is in regards to the rough look of the microphone... that should have been taken care off by the art department and it's perhaps worth a post session to paint it up in post...
Regards,
I agree with Jim, looks fantastic and the RED really brings the settings to life. I also agree about the mic, brings the whole thing down a bit. Maybe drop it into shadow at the grade?
...yeah, just paint up a clean frame, painting out the adhesive tape residue and 2D track it into the shots... then just grade that side of the frame down in general... easy breezy...
When I first got camera #14, the back focus was off. Two of the symptoms of having the back focus incorrect is that a zoom lens won't be zoom-through (i.e. hold the same focus distance as you zoom) and the focus marks won't be accurate. Red fixed it immediately (took them about 15 minutes).
Once fixed, focus marks and zoom through were spot on. The only real worry for me was the possibility of having the back focus drift over time (which mine did not). But now with the news of the entirely new/improved mount that will be coming out soon, even that's not a worry.
Looks tight- really nicely put together and well lit. Great example of what the camera can do. As for the mic shots- that's a matter of taste they could maybe benefit with a little more secondary color correction to de-emphasize the mic.
But that's a very minor quibble- this is excellent work and I'd be surprised if it didn't wind up on the Red wow reel soon enough.

Thanks John. Yeah, I'm hoping the new mount design will eliminate this completely. I'll be using the camera in Australia so quick factory adjustments won't exist. Hopefully there will be some degree of local support, certified repairer etc., where this sort of thing could happen. Luckily there will be enough cameras here (something like 50 on order so far) to fill the gap if one of us does have to send it off for a few weeks.
But back to the video, again great job!
