yes!!! Redcine!!! yay thank you!!!
is REDCine really coming out this week?
I heard it was coming out weeks ago...
Can REDCine open a batch of clips at once? Having to open one at a time is a real chore.
Will REDCine included the REEL name in the QT header for effective EDL creation?
Will REDcine be available freely?
For the record, 4K 16/9 will be 4096X2304, right?
If I recall as redcine will probably remain always in "beta" it will remain free.
Rory, redcine is supposedly able to batch process yes.

flameop - last I heard straight from Jim's mouth was that there were leaning towards it would be freely distributed in perma-beta.
See here:
From http://www.hdforindies.com/2007/10/i...-red-day.html:
"Jim – I’m not sure will ever get out of beta
Ted – that’s kind of an honest way to describe it
Jim – We don’t necessarily want to charge for, but we don’t necessarily want to take responsibility for it either. A free beta… "
So unless they've changed their minds, it'll be ours to keep and use.
Yeah thanks Mike.. thats where I got it from.

I think they owe it to the users at some point to declare a release version, so we can assure our clients that they are not shooting with a format *perpetually* in beta- no?
Noah
Typically in the software development field, where there is continual development, you would release two types of builds in such a way:
beta 1.01b
beta 1.02b
release 1.5R
beta 1.51b
beta 1.52b
beta 1.56b
release 1.6R
etc...
Or some fashion along those lines. In other words, you are always releasing new builds to the client so they have the most up to date, but they are designated as such.
At intervals, when milestones on functionality or stability is reached, the current build is throughly tested for stability and those are released as official release builds.
The release builds get more test time and thus provide a bit more assurance of stability for those who would prefer it, while those who want the latest and greatest can new builds as they pop up.
This is a pretty good system. Once you have a decent code versioning system in place (if you don't have one already), this isn't difficult to setup.
Will Redcine be able to read an EDL or something like that?
I was under the impression it would be able to do that, but I'm hearing different stories lately...
