Wanted to know if the actual version of Baselight 8 has the newest RED color and gammuts implemented? There is a grading of a feature coming up on it and want to test to go the log route for filmout and using REDlogFilm as Base....

    thx for info

It all depends on which version of software the post facility is running. I suggest you get in touch with Baselight directly:

    Filmlight
    38 Bedford Square
    London, WC1B 3EL
    England
    44 (0)20 7631 4905
    http://www.filmlight.ltd.uk/

and find out were their Red support is at the moment. I believe 4.2 is the current software version, but 4.3 is about to be released at NAB in two weeks.

There are significant workflow decisions you have to make pretty early on, some of which involve whether to go with R3D or DPX files, and DPX may make more sense under some conditions. A lot of it boils down to time and budget, as well as what your final delivery formats will be.

thx for info... source is 4,5kWS R3Ds and finals will be anamorphic scope print (ARRI Laser), 2k DCP as HDCamSR. To ingest DPX in baselight only for playback performance isn't a must... do you know other advantages ??? In the past we always conformed straight from the RAW. Doing the goodlight in RCX and rendering there the DPXs will cost more time but will be ok if its needed... There was a problem in the header data in the DPXs from RCX (Roll and TC), is that now solved (and in what version, currently using 356) ??

    thx

Yes, in version 4.2x. If you're looking for Epic support, you'll need to contact Filmlight as that is not in the current **release** version.

Also are last Filmout is going to Cannes from a post house based in Malta and just before a film that we did with Israel won an award on Sundance 2011...

It might be very cost effective to collaborate...
