After "leaking" previews right left and centre over the month prior to NAB and then rudely shoving everyone out the way at the FCPUG function, it can hardly be a mystery what they have in store for us. I just hope Apple's arrogance really is worth it in this case. They sure have a LOT of catching up to do after letting every other NLE get further and further ahead over the last few years.

Of course, they could be just there to announce a bunch o' Thunderbolt stuff...
    Cheers

I do not see Apple as arrogant personally. They are just trying to make the biggest impact with the launch. Good marketing practice. Now if RED made the same statement with launching Scarlet, I would be ecstatic :)

Apple is one of the most arrogant companies on the planet and has been for many, many years. The fact that they also deliver on most of their arrogant claims makes it more acceptable arrogance, but arrogance none the less. And the fact that the Apple faithful eat it all up does make it good marketing practice, but no less arrogant.

I'm quite surprised about the move by the FCPUG to bounce the other vendors. The same folks who have provided the raffle prizes being given away year after year. The reason why paying an entry fee into the event is worthwhile.

Now, it's "thanks for the goods, now take a hike! Well, you can still stay in the vendor/demo room, if you'd like to." I can see the move more or less to get Avid out of the room. But those other vendors are direct supporters of the platform.

If it were a finished product ready to ship, they would choose a different venue. This is likely an early public preview.

Fair enough.. arrogant they are. I am surprised it bothers you so much. Yes I am an Apple faithful in as much as I love using Mac computers and their software. I love their stuff and I am not in the least bothered with what everybody else is using. Power to their elbow. I am not going to hide my love of most things Apple just because there are bitter people out there who goes 'boo haa' each time the Apple brand is mentioned.

They already kind of did that last year with Snow Leopard support. More rumors here... I think its FACT. FCP 64 bit is FINALLY done and Im SURE it will have R3D support.

Although it does seem likely I thought it was still a rumor at this point? Has this, in fact, been confirmed?

If FCPUG bounces other vendors then it is their decision, even if Apple requested it. Of course, it makes sense that if the usergroup, that exists because of a certain product, is asked by the company to use their meeting to announce a big upgrade there is motivation to allow the company to be the focus of that meeting.

So, those are my minimum expectations if I would even consider switching back from CS5. And it better deliver, it has been far too long.
If this happens, I will literally cook a hat and eat it.

I think you are safe. At a minimum, I doubt you are ever going to see Blu-Ray hardware from Apple. Jobs as much as said so and the future is online, not hard media. I also don't think you are going to see ProRes replaced since it has been rather successful and very well received. Otherwise, that's a pretty minute and specific list; mine would be as long but only overlap a few of those items. I am sure Apple will not please everyone or fulfill everyone's wish list since that would be pretty much impossible.

It is always interesting to see how many people either love or hate Apple; not much in between. As for bumping everyone at the SuperMeet, it is put on, after all, by the Final Cut Users Group. Can you imagine an Adobe or Avid venue where Apple/Final Cut is given top billing let alone significant participation?
