  1. #1 FCP with R3D editing problems thread..
Ok.. thought I'd open a thread for people having problems running the new fcs update and all the goodies Red just released..

    1st things I notice..

1, all 512 qt wrapped files play RT in the viewer but show red bar on canvas/timeline. nice and sharp though..

2, update all fcs apps.. install new red qt codec.

3, drop QT wrapped file onto timeline asks do you want to conform seq settings to clips.. > yes

4, Now.. you need to go into Seq settings and change the codec to REDCODE.. voila.. no red bar.

Only Q is.. why does all the QT wrapped files now go blurred when I hit play ? :-/

    Any other issues?

    1. you need to enable unlimited RT in FCP

    4. that's true, but then you can't render and stuff because the REDCODE codec is input only. That's why FCP 6.0.2 select prores per default. Hence you need to do #1 and you'll get an orange bar instead

It goes blurry because it drops quality / resolution to play and decodes at a higher quality on pause. This ties in to your FCP RT settings

Is there a way to prevent that? It's annoying/makes awesome footage look crappy at the very least...

You can set the playback video quality to 'High' (in the RT popup in the timeline window), but Final Cut will probably complain about dropping frames. It's dropping to a lower resolution during playback for a reason.

    Cheers Rob.

for 2 k set it to medium 4 k Low..

It goes blurred on Dynamic.. choose a setting your sys can play and all is good..

This rocks being able to just cut away :)

Is there a way to have the quicktime reference files reflect any grading that you do in red alert or redcine?

Probably, if you make the proxies AFTER you grade.

Yep. I don't know why I didn't think to test it earlier, but it works. I look forward to when we can make proxies with Redcine.

Yes in RED ALERT, change some settings (select camera rgb [not 2] and don't change the curve), make quicktimes and load those. Not in REDCINE.

So is the Orange Bar (i.e. Unlimited RT) Timeline the only choice for "real time" editing?

Is there any solution for FCP native "Grey Bar" editing with 2K Proxies?
