He he, you are wrong, sorry Josh... What is missing is actually the ENTIRE ALEXA which is what this piece of ALEXA M so called, will need to connect to via Cable in order to function... ;)

It was showing on an other stand in a 3D set Up next to a 3D set up of Epic,m same size really... Oh just that there was also a cart behind the Alexa 3D set up with two ALEXA bodies hardwired to their little pieces of Alexa M... ;)

Really I just don't get this, but hey if Cameron can find a market for it, good on him, personally I would not care to make it work, but I'm not in to broadcast either so I'm sure that He and Pace do have a good use for it... ;)

Okay, this is coming from some one that is actually shooting his first MOVIE in 3D at 48fps....

I agree with all that has been said, and I know a few more that you guys might not... ;)

When I first purchased a HDTV, I was both upset and blown away of the new look I found in watching movies, and I tough, wow, this is crap!!

They made this movie like a SOAP OPERA, never watched them, but many times seen it at friends homes when stopped by and their mother would be watching it.

Then at home I watched movies previously viewed on regular TV, and seen the huge difference, yes a Soap Opera look, but also a possibility of actually see scenes which were missed before or too dark to see.

So any ways at first I just didn't like the look, too sharp, too crisp, too revealing, too life like, it wasn't the movies... ;)

Well, now I can't go to the movies, and fill like (what the hell is going on? Why is all out of focus, ever soft, so dark?) So I now love HDTV, and in fact LOVE seen material in 4K that now HDTV is the one that at times seems soft or not in off detailed and crisp to my eyes.

So I understand completely the comments made here, and they are all correct, it will take getting used to it.

In out tests at 48fps in 3D is amazing what you really see, and this is what prompted the final decision to make my first move "RAPE of a BEAUTY" which story has evolved to become the Prequel to "PERSEVERANCE" is host in 3D at 48fps.

The added realism and super crisp true to life experience made me believe that this was perfect for my Movie, in fact I think that it might even be better for my movie then for The Hobbits, but I absolutely agree and support Peter Jackson on his decision.

    OH...

    DON'T FORGET...

NEVER SHOW ANY ONE YOUR UNFINISHED MATERIAL...

THEY JUST WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND IS NOT FINISHED!!

GRADING IS SUCH A POWERFUL LAST TOUCH IT CHANGES EVERYTHING!!

Don't take a RAW SNAKE to a TABLE, they will puke or screaming run away form your restaurant, but if you served to them in little pieces in a white wine garlic sauce, hmmm gnammy.... They will literally think is CHICKEN... I HAVE DONE IT.. ;)

I have to disagree a bit. I haven't seen a TV where movies look good. Sports look very nice on big TV's but movies don't. There's really nothing on the picture that looks better compared to projector. I mean, even the extreme makeups look very fake many times. I tried to like it for a long time when my old projector broke and I was waiting new 1080p projector but after like 20 films I switched to my 16" laptop and watched all movies from it. That's how much I hated the TV picture :p

    Josh,

you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, and in fact I always have encouraged people to express their opinions, especially when it comes to food and visual conception, such as Photography and Cinematography.

I have expressed my view clearly on my previous post, to that all I can add is that there is TV and there is TV, meaning that now that I have afforded the best TV money can buy, I do see the difference and not just a little, also it of course helps the fact that I do know how to properly calibrate my TV and also never watch a Nature show with the same settings as I watch a Movie or a 3D movie, I change the settings to better fit the subject been screening.

But, yes, I also agree to the fact that a MOVIE in a MOVIE Screen, IF, and ONLY IF properly projected is always a great experience, and for this we are soon to launch our very own MOVIE THEATER CHAIN, because I see current screenings not fulfilling that experience which is promised, but a good HDTV at home needs to also bring content to life, but not all...

I have a 55" Samsung 9000 series TV, the best, trust me I have tested them all, I have a 60" Monitor, which I use for work, and have a 150" Motorized Screen made with the absolute latest technologies to better screen 3D material, and use each of them accordingly to the material I'm viewing.

A bigger image for Movies, Documentaries and other entertaining content is always better, I would not want to see news or Big Brother on a big screen that is a fact, which btw, I don't watch them on the TV either... ;)

But my point of discussion was to the fact of Peter Jackson's decision on 48fps, and mostly so on the decision, of screening a preview which was done of material not FINISHED.

I don't know why people keep bringing up the unfinished nature of the screened material. It being finished or not has zero to do with the unpleasing look of 48fps material to those viewers who didn't like it. Almost all of the reports on the screening mentioned that the actual content was great inspite of their dislike of the HFR.

Sorry Andrew, YOU COULD NOT BE FAR FORM THE TRUTH!!

Screening UNFINISHED material has everything to do with it!!

Of course not just about that, but it does have all to do with it.

Too many times in my 22 years in Hollywood I have seen this bring projects down, in both Motion projects as well as in Photography.

I bring any one to challenge my arguments with real facts, I have them, I have been there so many time I can't count them all, and all had the same results... failure!!

Executives and Theaters owners or Press, don't know shit about what PHOTOSHOP is or any POST program or FX for Motion Picture is, so you can waist all the time you want telling them... Oh you see this big wrinkle under her eye, well don't worry I'l take care of it in Photoshop, oh and that blown out highlights on her forehead, that too don't worry I'll take care of that also in Photoshop, and so on...

For motion Pictures even more complex...

So please Andrew with the out most respect you just simply are in no way qualified to tell me that I have no business saying what I have just said... BECAUSE I AM!!

at last I'll be coming to WELLINGTON, NZ next month, exact dates to be determined within the next few days, most likely the very beginning of MAY!!

It will be an absolute blast to finally get to see GORGEOUS NZ, and finally meet in person some of you fellow REDUSER in and around WELLINGTON, visiting PARK ROAD and WETA facilities to discuss future projects in the works... ICING ON THE CAKE!!

While there I could be needing a Videographer or a photographer or both for behind the scenes documenting of my trip there, I'll be bringing my CANON 1D IV with me, if there is any locals that are up for it, please let me know, also any suggestions on local Hotels would be great, my stay would be about 2 weeks.

RED EPIC M8 of course will be also visiting and shooting what ever possible during this time, as well as some Test Plates for our next Feature Film which will take place in NZ... ;)

So look forward to this trip!!

PS: Even so will further burry me with work left to do here in Rome for "RAPE of a BEAUTY" and KETCH ROSSi TREE of LiFE, but I guess this is a Trip I can not longer push back... Surprise Surprise... ;)

Except that the issue isn't grading or anything else, it is the motion cadence of 48fps that was offputting to those in attendance. The motion cadence won't suddenly change in December because the effects work or the grade is complete. You don't seem to understand what people are having an issue with if you actually believe the unfinished nature of the material had anything to do with it. The truth is that 48fps content played back at 48fps produces a visual aesthetic that is jarring to people expecting a narrative cinema "look".

You might want to take a bit more time to consider the actual complaints being lodged here by those who saw this particular demonstration. I've personally seen a lot of finished work originated and displayed at 48/60 and it is very different in the way it "feels" compared to 24fps content. It will take a long time before people are willing to view HFR footage as being a proper cinematic framerate because we've all grown up with 24fps as the standard for narrative cinema.

The theater owners and managers who were at the screening were hoping that 48fps would be the next big thing to draw people into their cinemas as attendance has been flat or in decline the last few years. What they saw was a look that they know won't go over well with the audience. The problem here is that you are emotionally invested in 48fps 3D as you yourself have chosen to use it for your forthcoming film. You lack the objectivity to listen to the comments being made and see why they may be valid opinions and instead deflect and say "Oh, its unfinished material. Obviously that is the problem!"
