Hello, greetings to everybody from the Basque Country:
Although itīs our first time in this site weīve been visiting it from the begining. Itīs not our first time working with Red cameras and we never had any problems with the cameras nor with the RedCine, but this time we are unable to load RedCine. We followed Jarredīs instructions but solved nothing. As the RedCine folder didnīt appear in the Library I created it manualy. I also installed old versions of Redcine but they didnīt work either. Apart from that an extrange thing occurs: I can only open the application from the disc image.
I am exporting 4K 25fps and 2K 120fps footage to 1920 x 1080 Aja Kona 10 bit RGB.
Iīm really scared and think Iīm gonna be fired, there seems to be no way out of this
thank to the beautiful Red community!

Aja Kona 3
I have been testing my system with various codecs and workflows.
IMO - since I'm not as knowledgeable as some - the key to a painless workflow is ALL THE RAM you can afford, and a capture card such as the KONA 3.
I have transcoded 30 min of 2K 2:1 footage from the .r3d files in Redcine to UC10bit 4:2:2 in 12 min. Same footage into AJA 10bit LOG RGB in 11 min. All as quicktimes.
Again, MORE RAM AND a CAPTURE CARD are necessary. I have posted my complete system specs below on this thread. Someone please correct me, point out flaws in my thinking, etc.
But I'm a happy camper.
Not related to the graphics card.
It does promote/add to system performance in relation to FCP. It also allows the connections (inputs/outputs) of monitors, decks, audio equipment, etc.
You can check it out at www.aja.com
Look for KONA 3 -
I haven't tried any 4K 16x9 yet - was under the impression 16x9 wasn't supported yet?
Not sure about the RAID array's contribution either. I attribute most of it to the KONA 3 card and the maxed out RAM.
Been having issues getting all of the OUTPUT settings just right - until today. Everything seems fine and I'm super happy with my results.
mac pro:
2x 2.66 ghz dual-core intel xeon
5gb 667 mhz ddr2 ram
osx 10.5.2 quicktime: 7.4.5 fcp: 6.0.3
graphics: ATI Radeon X1900 512mb 01.00.202
normal output: Quicktime ProRes HQ @ RED ONE 2K normal/standard
result: WORKS
opinions:
project settings: great range of formatting possibilities, just have to double check when reopening a project that the defaults don't reset themselves, lost half a days work to rerendering material that slipped from red1 2k @23.98 to 2048x1024@24
shot settings: very intuitive interface, even inexperianced asst. editors can jump on board with shot setups for proper pan&scan results
color: love the first light correction! nice balance between the somewhat bland raw data and our finished product, gives our rough edits a nice look for clients to enjoy that's fairly close to our final balancing
renders: could be faster, we usually top out @ 3-4fps would love to see it hit the same rate we get for L&T of R3D's or even as fast as L&T for P2, but we know that's awhile off!
Seems to be working for all basic ops here on XP 64-bit (SP2)
Homebuilt Intel Quadcore Extreme mild O/C'd to 3.3 Ghz
8 GB RAM
XFX 7950 GT w/ 512MB
Asus WS 5e Pro mobo
Playback: 4k 1/2 Res Medium (High works intermittently)
Dual 30" LCD set as Dual View. Redcine takes over #1 - can't get at apps behind it.
we/I really want to playback to broadcastmonitor from RC/RA....
