As some of you know, I've been working with REDucation, and have been a REDuser for the past 2.5 years. I own RED 5721, and I love it. But wait there's more, the Epic. Today started my first day with this lovely tool. It's far easier than the previous RED, and while I learned it top to bottom, it took a while, not so with the Epic, it's an easy learn. From the quick boot up (less than 10 sec), to the well laid out touch screen menus, and the size, it's great. Lets not forget the file, OMG, beautiful. I even tried the HDRx for a few takes, and the results once brought into RCX were very good (increased detail in the highlights, and more info in the shadow area. I'm psyched that I have another week and a half on this project, and I'll chime in from time to time with more of my discoveries.

Von what exactly do you have mounted on top of the camera?
What's between the Top Mounts and the camera?
Which cheeseplate and handle is that?

The entire top mount is a custom config from Keslow Camera. However, it is a shortened version of Element Technica's Topside Combo, and the handle is Element Technica's Cheese Stick, just shortened. That's it.

Hi Von, great to hear our EPIC and Master Primes are working out for you guys! Keep the updates coming.

(and yes, we/Keslow Camera have adapted the accessories from the RED One so AC's don't have to adjust their mounting options from what they're already used to and familiar with)

I had the Epic in the desert (Lancaster) yesterday, and no heat issues.

Thanks, Von. How are the top mounts attached to the camera, though? Is it a plate at the front, and some kind of bracketry at the rear?

So being very open about my experience so far, not much has bothered me, actually, most of the things I needed worked. However, I have a glitchy REDMOTE, and can't get it to function off camera, and the SDI port is too recessed, and anyone with big hands is going to have a difficult time attaching and un-attaching a BNC cable.
