I've been testing several workflow options of Epic footage and FCP and have not been able to get FCP to read any Epic footage. It understands Red MX footage fine, but not Epic. Has anyone else been able to Log and Transfer epic footage via FCP, or is there an Epic codec that needs to be installed, or waiting to be released?

For now, aside from 3rd party software, my only option is to transcode proxies in Redcine-X, edit in FCP, then reconform in Redcine-X. If taking into Color for further grading, would then need to transcode out from Redcine-X to ProRes4444 and finish in Color. This seems a painfully long process, but I see no other option until there is an Epic codec or FCP plugin. Perhaps FCP X will come with them?

Is anyone else finishing Epic projects in Color?

I assume it is 5K? If so, I don't believe FCP is capable of dealing with it at this point. I also saw a post elsewhere that suggests Epic is not presently creating R3D proxies in-camera. A lot of things point to FCP not being able to deal with Epic footage just yet although I don't have any personal experience.

Correct, Epic does not create the proxies like the Red One. I've shot some test footage with Epic and it only gives you a single r3d file. You can create the proxies via Redcine X, though, however without an Epic codec, FCP, or any player is unable to playback those proxies. So far Redcine X is the only free software to read and export Epic r3d's.

FYI- Adobe just released Epic footage support for the CS5.5 version of Production Premium. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but it should allow editing native Epic 5k.

Yup, and it works with the trial version of Premiere Pro too. Might be worth giving a try?

It also has various keyboard presets built in so you can switch your keyboard shortcuts to FCP style. :)

Does Red Rushes not process the Epic R3D's?
Does RedAlert work with it in a 1light capacity?
Could you simply debayer and render footage to half sized ProRes Files, thus crating your own proxies for a 2K "offline" edit?
Then do the finishing and color grading in either Color or a 3rd party program?

I don't have access to Epic footage at this time.

Please use REDCineX Pro. Way better the old old programs.

I understand CineXpro will give a better finishing...
I was looking for an "offline" workflow...
Was just wondering if the Older programs will work with the Codec to deliver a workable "proxie."
The project I am looking at can't afford a true, dedicated Digital Tech, and I won't have the time to dedicate to creating Dailies from the CineX program.
