  1. #1 Wrap on the first Mexican production
    Hey community.

I have the great pleasure of announcing that we've just lost our Red virginity down here in Mexico as well. Yesterday we wrapped photography, after three days of shooting, on the short film "La Promesa" (The Promise) directed by Erwin Jaquez (director and VFX supervisor of videoclips for major label bands like Café Tacuba, Zoe an Julieta Venegas as well as a multitude of commercials). Previously the director has preferred 35mm film, but has also worked extensively with Mini DV and HD.

The short film was shot using one of Simplemente's Red Cameras (#84 and #85) on Arri prime lenses. Security copies of all the clips were made on set before wrapping, and they actually sent me some .r3d files over the Internet to Norway for reviewing as well as proxy files. Intercontinental film production is a reality!

Post production is being done using Final Cut Pro and Scratch and is already well undereway.

The director has been quoted as saying "Compared to 16mm or 35mm, this is glorious." ("Comparado con el 16mm o 35mm esto es la gloria".)

We will be hosting an introductory Red event in Mexico very soon now. Anyone interested in attending can contact Simplemente at the following:

Workin' on it. Operating RedCine with Remote Desktop from the other side of the Atlantic is... shall we say... less than optimal.

You operate Redcine over remote desktop? That sounds pretty cool! And the picture? Through internet too?

I was just playing around. It's not usable at all that way.

Anyway here are a couple of frames from the shoot.

Frame grabs are very nice, whough I believe you have not taken adventadge of the 0.5 extra stops of the r3d's. Try lowering exposure a bit when exporting.
