I agree with everyone, the extra resolution is going to make Epic + anamorphic truly a visual treat! It's going to be fun next year and 2013 going to all the Epic shot movies .... :)

It's for people who don't have digital options. Like some other gear I could mention, it would have been amazing about 10 years ago.

The 1.3 squeeze Hawk V-Lites are awesome, ALTHOUGH the overall anamorphic feel is significantly less present with the lenses. With less of a compression factor, the anamorphic distortions and focal-length/depth-of-field properties are also correspondingly toned down... STILL it's a great idea... you can turn standard 1.33:1 into 16x9 (think what you could do with BigTV negative in a film camera...) OR you can take a 16x9 aspect ratio and turn that into 2.40:1... This is a great benefit for all of those 16x9 imagers out there... However, the PRICE of those suckers makes the idea almost entirely unusable. No rental house in the states has purchased them since it's such a specialty aspect ratio versus the cost (something like 50K Euro EACH LENS!) Though if you buy a whole set the price would come down SOME...)

I bugged Camtec about getting a set for a few years... didn't happen... BUT, they DID end up buying some standard 2:1 V-Lites and I'm going to be using them next month on a feature I plan to shoot 5K Anamorphic on!

Hey guys the camera tests we did with the Epic and the Panavision C series lenses looks great. After switching from 35mm to EPIC weeks before we started shooting, Paul is getting the hang of setting looks right off set and likes the process and camera a lot.

I think Total Recall is in great hands:

Camera crew on Total Recall is an experienced "A" crew with anamorphic backround, I know that the movie will look like million dollars, or maybe couple hundred millions dollars :-)

    Let the show begin :)

Well, now we know what RED will release if they do end up releasing an anamorphic lens set. :D

As it's shot anamorphic, it is probably not "full 4k" to begin with.
Still gonna be pretty cool, I wager!
