When will 4K 16:9 playback be availible in RED ALERT?
as soon as possible, definitely before you get your cameras
Thing is I'm shooting with a rented one next month :shiftyph34r:
I'm sorry, it's not done until it's done. If it was an easy fix you'd already have it ;)
Rob has current news. I have future news. I'm using a build today that has 4K 16:9 and REDCINE supports it. No problem. My build also includes 2K 2:1 so you can match 2K and 4K with either 16:9 or 2:1. REDCINE supports all of them.
Sleep tight. RED design is awake.
Jim
Yes, REDCINE indeed supports all formats the camera can shoot, the QuickTime codec and RED ALERT do not yet, but will be very soon.
wooowis there is another :nuke: good surprises Jim & Rob..:ninja:
I am 2/3rds right... Rob is 100% right.
Somewhere in there is the truth.
Jim
When will quicktime be able to show 16:9 files?
Soon, as Rob says.
But to clarify, 2K 2:1 and 2K 16:9 are both supported in QuicKTime (and hence Final Cut Pro) plus RED ALERT and REDCINE already..
Playback capabilities as of today for the various video formats are -
4K 16:9 CAMERA REDCINE
4K 2:1 CAMERA REDCINE RED ALERT QUICKTIME FCP
2K 16:9 CAMERA REDCINE RED ALERT QUICKTIME FCP
2K 2:1 CAMERA REDCINE RED ALERT QUICKTIME FCP
So for now, with 4K 16:9 you need to bring it into REDCINE and export it as a standalone QuickTime movie in a different codec - such as ProRes - for viewing or use in Final Cut Pro etc. Exports to DPX / TIFF are also O.K.
