Finally i had the time and did a shoot and run test yesterday in our small village Gengenbach (set of tim burtonīs "charly and the chocolate factory" - here they shot the "german" scenes)

Itīs looks bit too flat on vimeo and youtube.
I did a h264 version on my ipad and it looks great on it. If someone is interested in an ipad version please PM me, i will give you a link.
Gengenbach has one of the oldest historic buildings in the world, towers and churches.
Itīs a very fairytale-like and magical atmosphere here when night falls in.
So, a quite nice location to test how epic works when you go alone, just equipped with camera, a light matte box, 2 red primes, some filters, thatīs all. shooting time: 8 - 10.30 pm.
It may look not so spectacular in the first view, but especially the last shots are wonderful, because a) it was really really dark out there (simply said, it was night) and b) i have all possibilities to push the material even more.
that is pretty cool. I really must look for noise in it, actually, on a 50" Full HD i did not see any noise on a test blu ray.
i tried some strong promist filter in some of the last shots - but i donīt like it. but to show, i cut it in. it looks better on the TV than on an computer i must say. I used promist a lot in the past years when shooting digital, to protect (or better said, to hide) this videolikish lines in the highlights of videocameras.
but now, with epic (or MX in general) an the new colorspaces, the highlight behaviour is simply great.
people who say Epic looks videolikish are not getting the best out of this box. period.
First scenes were high contrast shots with deep shadows, deep sun, and i kept all informations with native sensor (no HDR)
On a Full HD TV this stuff looks simply great. No added sharpness or denoise.
i had no issues with the camera, except the handling with the touchscreen, that sometimes does work not so well, i donīt know itīs my fault or the hardware.
sometimes it simply does not react when you touch it, i use the buttons of the sidehandle to go on, and after this touchscreen works on this position ... (?)
My conclusion of this shoot:
great DR, great clean image, superb slowmotion. when package is complete (batteries and EVF) itīs incredible small and itīs the camera you can go out alone and shoot cinematic stuff.
btw, today , someone said to me : this looks great, but a F3 and especially Alexa produce the same ...
i just said: but i have it in 5K. and 96 f/s. and raw. i stopped ...
no answer from the guy ...
More to follow ...
