Hey just wondering, have people been using the Red EVF? I'm renting a RED for a shoot next month and the rental place is telling me it's not 'enabled' yet, yet I see people here using it, so what's the word?

Hey just wondering, have people been using the Red EVF? I'm renting a RED for a shoot next month and the rental place is telling me it's not 'enabled' yet, yet I see people here using it, so what's the word?
the word, as it seems right now, is that there are a few units out there and probably more prototypish.
at least its unlikely you get one as the amount was, and as Jim stated will be in the near future, limited.
ah. i see! Any solutions out there for the time being, with perhaps third-party viewfinders?
I realize there is something that can be done with dual on-board LCDs (third-party) but that's a bit cumbersome.:shiftyph34r:
unlikely: the system RED, integrates, incorporates, bought, however you like it, is by/from/of Accuscene.
This is pro and con at the same time: one of the best 3rd party tools available with awesome specs and much cheaper now on the red, con: one of the few. besides Canon I am not aware of any freely available viewfinders on the market.
Though there maybe some, its unlikely you get them working, provide enough resolution, features or whatever.
Unless you've found an HDMI or HD-SDI 3rd party EVF... I can't imagine hooking another EVF up to the camera.
is there any aprox ship date for the EVF? will it ship before 2008? i didn't know they were limited as someone said earlier in the thread..
Some of them will ship before 2008, indeed some already have, how many is the real question, I know #17 and #19 have them on order but have not seen an EVF yet.
We shot #47 yesterday and today - and the EVF came with it. We didn't use it however because we opted for HDSDI output so we could send a signal to an extra monitor on set. Currently only one output works at a time. Apparently the EVF works, although I haven't actually seen it working myself.

I'm guessing that the EVF is a long way off. If Red really does ramp up production like they have planned, then all new cameras will ship without the EVF. It seems as though there are only about ten that were even sold. As much as I really liked the EVF when I tried it out at NAB, I would need something else in the meantime. An LCD just doesn't cut it out in direct sunlight.
Has anyone heard of problems with the EVF? Can the manufacture schedule for the camera be applied to the schedule for various accessories, EVF, optional lens mounts, Red Drive? These things are all very important and they aren't even addressed on this forum by RED employees. I understand that shipping the camera is a first priority, but I'd like some info on the rest of the camera support gear just so i know how much I'll actually be spending at the time of the camera purchase.
thanks
