I'm not really as old as this suggests, but the PBS station I first worked at had cameras made in 1953 when I started working there. They had been donated by WNET in NY. There were 6 of them (I think), The engineers scavenged parts to keep three of them running most of the time, but I remember a live show on which two of the cameras died in the middle of the show, leaving only the camera I was running on the air for about 10 minutes.

I have never owned a professional camera, my current camera is a panasonic SD Mini DV 3 chip thing which I don't really shoot anything on anymore, before that it was a Sony single chip mini DV.
Camera's I've used are all Sony apparently, I shot 48 seconds on the 7D but I didn't operate the camera at any time on that shoot so I can't say I've used one before.

I've always been a big fan of Panasonic cameras. They're well made and good for most productions. The Varicam was the best Sub-Full HD camera I've ever shot on. The images it makes, even at 720p, are pretty astounding.

When the HVX was just breaking through on the sales floor is the same time I was following Jarred's adventure to Oakley to see the first images of the R1 being constructed. After hearing about his travels and what Jim was doing, I passed on the HVX altogether and put my deposit down on the R1 instead. I haven't looked back since. Kind of funny thinking that I would have gladly spent $2000 on the Andromeda DVX mod.

My first camera ever was a Red One. The only other cameras I would like to try is a Phantom for super high frame rates and a Meduza for 3D.

It would be interesting to learn of Jim's first camera chosen by himself as an "adult", and learn how many of us started with "better" equipment than Jim. My first that I chose myself after doing research was the Canon A1 a truly revolutionary camera which won my loyalty to Canon lenses and technology. The Olympus OM1 soon followed as a real "pro" camera.
