  1. #1 Fujinon EFP/ENG lens with Epic?
We have a Fujinon HA14x4.5BERM - EFP/ENG B4 2/3' lens and are interested in using it on an Epic, now that it will record 2K. Does anyone know if that is possible? I was just checking the Red store and noticed that the B4 to PL adapter only works with the Red One, not the Epic or Scarlet. Is this a mistake? It seems like it would work with all the cameras. Also, I think Red made some cables to give power and button on control to the EFP/ENG B4 Fujinon lenses. Does anyone know if the same cable will work with the Epic?

    Thanks,
    Terry

At this point those would be questions only Red Team could answer. Since both Epic and Scarlet will record 2k, it seems to me that if for some reason the original Red B4 to PL adaptor won't work with these new cameras, that Red will eventually make a new B4 to PL adaptor for them.

As you know I pioneered the use of 2/3" B4 EFP/ENG zooms on Red One way back in 2007. In the beginning I got the servozoom hirose info from Fujinon for their lenses, and the pin connector info from Red, then I had custom cables made to enable use of those lenses. Later on in 2008 Red started making those cables themselves.

But again, the questions you're asking reference the new cameras can only be answered by Red Team at this point. Stuart English would be the most likely one to answer them. If Stuart is able to talk about Red's plans on that, perhaps he will post some info on this thread.

Thanks Steve, I thought you would be the one guy who would have already tried this out.

    :-))

Normally I would have, but Epic M8 (which I co-own) is in Italy with Ketch for some of our longterm projects there - and I'm waiting to receive my Stage 2 Epic X cameras (which will be solely owned by me).

Once I get a clarification from Red Team on B4 lens capability with Epic, and get my Epic X cameras, I'll naturally experiment with lots of lens/camera combinations and setups.

I have not yet tried to physically fit a RED B4-PL adapter on the EPIC, but our HDx2 and HDx35 adapters fit just fine. The HDx2 covers all 3K formats and some 4K and the HDx35 covers all 4K formats and some 5K. Coverage is format and lens specific. We've made cables for the RED One for use with B4 lenses but I have no yet looked into this for the EPIC. I see a port on the camera labelled "Control." Is this GP I/O and does it pass 12v? If so then that's an easy cable. If not then I'm sure we can still come up with a simple solution.
