Hi, I would like to put forward a question to anyone who has been working with the Epic-M...
Other than situations where HDR is not needed.... have you come across any shots where HDRx has broken down or caused problems? Fast action, for instance?

borken down while shooting?
NO.
or finding out in post?
Maybe a little...but not really.
I've used it in all lighting and motion scenarios as tests... not a probelm. works a treat in any scenario..
Panning super fast was a little average....long motion blur. But hey... you get that with many cameras as standard! so its not a gripe.
To be honest, its great to have, but we hardly use it. It's like RED range is so good anyway.
Over all it's engineering genius !! who ever thought up HDR in a 5k and wrapped it up in the camera this big should be given the Noble price!
Thanks for the replies... sounds like it is holding up really well. Great news!
I just found a scenario that renders it unusable. Shooting CRT displays or any other kind of screen where you need to keep sync with it's refresh. If it happens to you it's no biggie, you just use track 1 and ignore the other, but the extra stops go out the window with it :)
I have not tested this but an environments with flickering light sources such as flouros, magnetic ballast HMIs, TV and computer screens or sodium vapors the base track at 1/50th shutter speed would be good but the HDRx track may flicker with it's higher shutter speeds. In reality I doubt this will be a problem too often.
I'll be testing HDRx this week for use in a Day-for-Night situation... any thoughts or tips or things to watch out for would be appreciated.
Cheers
I have been pushing it pretty hard, +3, +4, +5, and so far I have had nothing but pretty solid results. Mostly ext day shots and I have not found it to break down as of yet! Once you get the hang on how to use it best you will really love this feature, i tend to rely on it quite often!
Just shot with the epic for the first time this weekend, and found an interesting issue with Magnetic ballasts. We shot 5K 2:1 23.976 at 1/60th shutter speed so as not to see any flicker from the mag ballasts. But we wanted to pull some detail out of the windows in the background, so we flipped on 3 stops of HDRx. Upon reviewing footage on our DIT workstation, we found that the X frame had a significant amount of rolling flicker. Does HRDx compensate for the exposure with shutter speed?
I used HDRx a week ago shooting outside in the bright Texas sun without the proper ND filters needed. We only needed +2 and the finished results are amazing. I'd like to add that this was one of those situational things where I had to make a good guess as to how much HDRx we needed. It ended up being just right fortunately.
