Rehousing a 24-70mm Zoom?

Hi!

Any plans from anyone to rehouse a still full-frame zoom? For cine use, with PL mount etc
I am talking about a "normal range" zoom such as 24-70mm. Both Canon and Nikon have very good zooms in that range, both quite fast for a zoom (F2.8).

I know about the Duclos 70-200mm project which is quite cool. But I would be more interested in a more middle of the road zoom with both a wide focal length and a reasonable long focal length.

I expect the rehouse to cost quite a lot... but still worth the question.

Anyone heard anything?

Id be interested in knowing about this. Im guessing Matt Duclos would be the guy to talk to.

Are you specifically talking about the canon 24-70? Perhaps the Nikon 28-70 with a simple PL mount and declicked Iris would be cheaper.

Id be interested to know wether canon would cost more or less than Nikon rehousing,what with the focus direction and all.

Focus Optics currently has the Ruby 14-24, which is a Nikon 14-24 conversion. They are working on a 24-70 version.

The Nikon 14-24 is a truly outstanding lens. The 24-70 2.8 G lens is.... hmmmm ok, but not in the same league as the 14-24. I thought it would be the lens I used most, turns out I seldom use it. I won't get excited over it.

How about the Canon 24-70mm and 70-200mm zooms?
They rotate like cine lenses so I suppose a rehouse would be easier than Nikons...

Optical quaslity is also very good.

Id be interested too.

Im not so sure about the Nikon 28 70, bokeh doesnt seem great. Id buy 17 35 and 70 200 now if some one performs a rehouse on them.

My bet would be on a zeiss/Sony 24-70 2.8

I checked Allstar say Sony but doesnt specify which lens so I guess you may well be correct. Be interesting to see how these lenses hold up. Any one got any example shots and expirience of them ?

I JUST emailed MAtt about this yesterday, i wanted to convert a 35-70 Nikon for basic interview work. He siad it would cost about as much as a dedicated PL lens.... FocusOptic/RED etc....

Mind as well get a RED 17-50

I think Id be quite happy with a 17 50 apart from the flying saucer attached to the front of it. Im trying to find some one that has removed it properly with out voiding warrenty and if there are any practical issues by not having it on the lens. Im also checking out the Century 17 35, I know it in stills form not not the conversion.
