Hi, I can't get good results blending HDRx images in Resolve 8, If I do what it says on the manual, and create a Layer node, add a source and reconnect, I can sort of mix them with gain slider in the Key tab.

But the results are not even as good as in Redcine X.

Besides doing that, do you still need to do a HSL key? Do you do it to the X track or the A track, or after the mixing?

Does anyone has a basic workflow for HDRx, including node architecture? Does any one know of a tutorial or video example?

I've seen a webminar that shows how to use and key HDRx tracks on scratch, is there something similar for Resolve 8?

    Thanks in advanced.

Once you got your head around the concept of nodes, you can do anything you want in Resolve with the qualifiers, like taking the luma from a blown out sky to replace it from the X track. It's very flexible, while you don't gain anything over doing it in RCX if you just want to blend tracks.

BTW, don't go too far with HDRx, just use as many stops as you absolutely need for the given scene. From my experience, HDRx works very well with 2 or three stops, but more than that is overkill on most scenes and can get nasty with fast motion.
    Regards,

    Uli

Hi, could you offer some details of what you can't get right. Both the normal and short exposure have the full dynamic range for individual grading and they are then mixed in the ratio you need. If you can provide an example of what you are trying to do someone on the forum can assist.

    Thank you both!

I was using someone elses footage, and couldn't pull of a good luma Key out of the windows, it was a shot in a moving van.

Now that I got my own footage and have learned how to use DaVinci a little more, I can get better results. Doing Luma keys is hard for me, I can't creat a clean one, I need to learn how to do it better. So I just blend the two tracks first with a layer node, and moving the Gain slider in the Key tab, and then I add some more nodes with power windows, lifting up the darkest parts.

I'm just learning for the moment.

I think you're learning fast Pablo!
    Your images look superb!

...and i think you're right, it is so much faster with your method than using a key :)

I talk about grading HDRx during my FXPHD Fast Forward classes.
It is not easy but with keys and windows you can get good results.
