Imax is 4:3, and RED is 16:9.

    15p 70mm would work nicely :)

Shoot 16:9, reframe to 4:3 in REDCINE, output, laser.

Seems reasonable. You wouldn't have the detail, FOV and DOF characteristics of 70mm... but you'd still have a humongous positive!

There's no 65mm laser recorder as far as I know

So it is impossible to record the entire chip to an outboard raid?

You can record the full 4520x2540 to an outboard RAID.

Graeme when we are looking in the viewfinder I understood we will be seeing a larger area than the usual 4K recorded area the so called "look around" area which is of course similiar to what we see in an optical viewfinder? I was thinking that if this area can also be recorded we would see more nearly 3/4 than 1.77 to 1??

Yes do see that. You can record this area through the RAW port (4.5K or 4520 x 2540)
