  1. #1 How RED is RAW
The Nikon/Canon etc. still cameras put out a raw file. In Photoshop it is possible to make a correction and batch correct a large number of frames... Thus if your motion camera makes raw pictures.... maybe Photoshop is a Davinci???

Can Photoshop and similiar programs see the RED RAW file?

RAW formats are generally vendor-specific. If RED documents the format, maybe some third-parties will support it, but nothing is going to work with it out of the box.

Thanks for the lead and interesting Adobe article. So if they are using the beyer pattern off a chip which is used in a still camera then the raw won't be the same as that brand of still camera? So are flavors of raw proprietary?

Yes, all flavours of RAW are proprietary. Ours, especially so because it's moving images, not still, and REDCODE RAW compressed, rather than uncompressed like most DSLRs.

Interesting education on "raw" could Red Cine output uncompressed raw images as for instance an animation sequence of canon raw stills? I work on spots and it might be very cool to have all that ability to play with looks across a short sequence! REalizing that it would quickly eat up disk realestate..

Conversion to DNG would be theoretically possible, but not to Canon CRW format. And yes, 16bit tiffs eat up your hard drive. I'm working on a lot of RED files and my hard drives are bursting because I need to render them uncompressed to help me examine the effects of REDCODE compression and other details.

Sometimes you don't want to see things I see, or else you'll be awake at night thinking on algorithms, or dreaming bayer patterns when you do get to sleep.
