Passive sets mean that they have to spend on a Pola laminate.

    Of course they love active!
    Precisely.

I seriously hope that 3D never becomes the 'standard'. Those that want it, can work with it and can view it without having to lie down in a dark room to recover - I salute you. I'll stick to 2d stories, thanks :)

(saying that, I still agree that I wouldnt trust Sony et al to have consumers and the progressive health of the market at heart)
Never is a powerful word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Are you really saying that you don't like the real world? You do realize that life is in 3D right?

The problem you are having is with the 3D technology, not with 3D.

That is a fine distinction, but important.

I mean, none of us want headaches ... and I assume that you don't get headaches looking around your environment ... your complaint is not uncommon.

Therefore the technology is insufficiently advanced.

If Jim and Red are going to turn their attention to this problem ... well you may well get 3D that does not give you a headache or force you to lay in a dark room to recover. 3D you can clearly see and appreciate.

Will you still revile it then?

jimm can we expect Scarlet any soon? watching future from last 3 years. off course Sony, samsung, panasonic they are not closer to RED but the big difference is they are not announcing that they gonna do something revolutionary but same time they are releasing some products maybe smaller not even to compare with RED but at least they are doing with options which ordinary professional people can afford.. now how long we have to wait for your already announced products like SCARLET, RED RAY, Red displays & Red laser projector? Epic is not fit in everyone's pocket..

Ok, I assumed that it would be understood that when I say 3D, I meant in the overall context of the original post - that is to say 3D display technology.

Sure, theres always scope for technological advancement - and so to clarify my remarks...

The current technology being pitched to us by Sony, Samsung and Panasonic is defficient. To me (and only from my point of view) 3D displays are a mess, and are not a pleasing way to see a film.

RED may have some advancement up their sleeve, and if/when that time comes I'll get to once again sit in front of a 3D display and make an assesment.
The 'never' in my original post, perhaps lacked my intended context - The 3D Tv that I can go to Argos (anyone from the UK here?? ;) ) and buy, that is what I hope will never become standard. Which I guess speaks a little to what Jim origianlly posted. Because these displays are being marketed and pushed to consumers as the revolutionary displays they're not.

The argument, was that Active Shutter glasses allow for sharper images... Of course I have a Dozen pairs of the AS 3D glasses form Samsung and a dozen pairs of Okley's Passive Polarizer,
and I would much like top ware the Passive ones, besides the fact that I look much cooler in it he he.

But I have a Samsung 9000 series 3DTV so I must suffer the monopoly and use AS for now on them and Passive Okley's on any other movie,
as I of course refuse to ware the stupidly cheap scratched up stuff they provide you with at Cinemas.

Any ways, the positive thing is that now there will no longer be a pair of AS glasses per each TV manufacturer... BUT AS still is, SO...

Look forward to see what you got up your Hat Jim... ;)

EDIT: Yeah sharper images with AS glasses do to the capacity to resolve higher resolution vs. PP glasses, yet again since RED is the leader of Higher Resolution,
we wait to see what you got coming Jim... ;)

Trust me on this one. They have lost their minds... really. I'll bet my lifelong reputation on it.

Can you tell us if this is going to require a change in the way 3d movies are shot, or are you referring to only the way they are exhibited?
One camera is a shoot... two or more is a production.

3D is such a mind blowingly silly idea and an enormous cash cow for the studios. What ever the next step from that will not be.

I personally witnessed no glasses 3D about four years ago and it still bemuses me that glasses 3D is still the go.

So RED, please deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
