I wished for an Epic but reflective thinking has led me to go first for a full fledged Scarlet system, and then upgrade in the future...all thanks to the modular design.
That's why we won't get hurt.
Meanwhile, back to the Magic Lantern Vimeo forum...
You're bursting at the seems to spill the beans and simultaneously saying that there are no more alerting the competition and announcements are when products ship.
Jim you're punishing yourself !
"Go at throttle up!" We on the RED rocket baby, burn!
Jim,
is this the same announcement that you were dying to make at NAB, but it wasn't ready then?
I remember that you were dying to spill the beans then... If so, this is the most restraint I've seen from you since I first logged onto Reduser!
I'm glad of the new Philosophy, and the disclaimer of Change. I really don't understand why everyone whine's so much about "Scarlett". I would like one too, but if it delayes, then I'm saving for the latest Red One or God willing the Epic-X eventually, or whatever is next. To me personally Red is the Standard, and as of now the Epic-X is the current Standard. Ideally we should push for the best we can do, always. Scarlet does not exist, yet, Red One and Epic-M, and Epic-X do. I'm preparing the way for one of those. If the Scarlet shows up along the way and it works for me, cool. If not, oh well on to the next one. I'm just grateful Red exists. Think about it, they broke the glass ceiling. It is pretty accesible to use the same exact camera that the latest blockbuster summer movie uses. And in all honestly, I will still be hitting the refersh button, I don't care if I sound like a fan boy, if I do, maybe its because I love the product. And I don't even own one yet.
I just have a hunch ... I'm going to throw it out and if I'm wrong that's fine. I probably am.
But look at it this way: Jim has not announced EPIC-S as part of the roadmap. He knows his customers desperately need EPIC-S. He would not disappoint them.
EPIC-S is a compromise. What does Jim think of compromises? Well, I think Superman's feelings about Kryptonite are pretty mild compared to Jim's feelings about compromise.
Right now, EPIC-X is sold in a package to RED ONE owners at a price that's very close to the proposed EPIC-S pricing.
I think Jim has sharpened his pencils and figured out how to profitably sell EPIC-X at very close to the price of EPIC-S, therefore eliminating EPIC-S from the roadmap.
Maybe this is the reason, or maybe there is a new EPIC-T coming out that's a nice improvement over S but with the same price. We won't know until he introduces it ... but we will know it will be worth the wait.
If I'm right, you heard it here first. If I'm wrong, well, I'm wrong :).
