Mac and Thunderbolt plus USB 3.0 would be nice for some future proofing.

OS X and Red Hat are most used op systems for my post-production and on-set jobs.
Thunderbolt would be cool to have besides eSata. USB 3.0 sounds cool too :)

I agree. Whatever you do, please keep e-sata.

Both. I work on both PC's and Mac's currently, so both would be best for me.

This works, a bit roundabout but backwards compatible http://store1.sonnettech.com/product...roducts_id=392

    Are you getting full 6Gbs?

    SATA is still faster, so....

    I'm all about options. :)

Personally I share Intel's opinion of USB3.0 (it's crap), but hey, it's out there and people are using it, it's backward compatible, so why not? I have a Mac Pro with a CalDigit 6GU3 card which gives 2x 6G SATA ports and 2x USB3 ports. So, I would probably use the USB3 on either Mac or PC. But would still connect to SATA in most situations. I can use the USB port to power the Station module if I don't want to wrestle the AC adapters or don't have the Station base handy.

No 6Gbps. Fastest speed I've got from a RED SSD card is about 289MB/s and I can sustain in the mid to high 200's -- which suggests that the SSD media itself is built with a 3Gbps interface. So as of right now, 6Gbps SATA, Thunderbolt and USB3.0 won't give us any further speed increase over the current SATA port, but it will be nice to have the additional USB3 and TB connectivity options.

FWIW, I was beta-testing a Thunderbolt to eSATA adapter. Sorry, can't say who makes it, but it's a name most people would recognize in the peripherals market. I sent it back for a hardware/firmware upgrade, they sent me a new one and I used it for about a week, then had to send it back again -- that was about 3 weeks ago. It should be ready for prime time, the last model I had worked flawlessly. They were hoping to ship in October, but it may be more like November now. I guess we'll see. It used a single TB channel (10Gbps | 800MB/s) and offered dual 6Gbps eSATA ports. There is a TB pass-thru port for daisy chaining. This manufacturer also has a TB to USB3 adapter that gives 2 x USB3 ports. I have not got my hands on that one.

While it's cool that Apple was first to arrive with Thunderbolt, it seems we're repeating the same history that happened with USB. It won't be until PC's get Thunderbolt at the very end of this year to early next year, then we will finally see a flood of Thunderbolt peripherals. So far, what does exist for Thunderbolt is very cool. There just isn't much out there yet. Only 4 shipping products that I am aware of and only one of those is a storage product (the Promise Pegasus RAID), which is pretty nice, I have one. But it's not rugged enough to be transportable or to be used on-set, on a cart, etc.. Nice on a stationary desk with an iMac though...

Good to know. I was going to preorder the sonnet adapter but if there is something direct from TB to eSATA coming I will wait.

    Bring on the Thunder!

I am mac based with 2 towers and 3 laptops. I run as much as I can with SATA and I do not care much about USB 3.0
