@Deanan, here is my wish list,
SSDs: 6Gbps SSDs when it comes time for the next hardware rev;
Station: upgrade to SATA3 (6Gbps) controller; TB with 2nd daisy-chain port; upgrade USB port to 3.0 spec.

I agree with you, the problem is that if I allow them to step in their own myopia the chances of them actually owning that error are about 1 in 10. The other 9 either; throw me under the bus with their boss when the overtime bill comes, sweep it under the rug and hire someone else for the next gig or tell me how sorry they are and that we'll have proper hardware on the next gig (that they never call me for).
To avoid the drama and late nights, I prefer to buy drives by the case and sell them to production. Unfortunately they see the latest Frys ad, offering some cheaply made 1TB drive for $80, and think I'm ripping them off even though I am marking up the proper drives less than 20% from my (case lot discounted) cost. Arghhh.
In any case, I am hoping someone has found something similar to the G-RAIDs with decent quality at a lower price point. I love the G-RAIDs and always pitch them as Plan A. Their build quality, chip sets and smart design (I even like the boxes) justify the cost in my book - but I'm not writing the check...

On Mac, but considering adding some Windows variety.
Thunderbolt w/loop - yes, please.
USB 3 - For future compatibility and convenience. Although it doesn't really work yet with Macs. I bought a CalDigit USB 3 Expresscard the other day. Kernel panics with most of my USB 2 card readers and the one USB 3 card reader I have. Then I read the fine print in their support page that says it's only guaranteed to work with Caldigit stuff. Sonnet's USB 3 adapter also lists the 'only works with Sonnet stuff' for OS X. So not much of a solution, yet...
E-SATA 6Gbit/s - sure, if the upgrade is imminent. But what good does it do if the SSDs are 3Gbit/s? Next stopgap upgrade of the Red SSDs?
If upgrade is more than 12 months away: Given RED's roadmap SATA Express 16Gbit/s on the SSDs seems a lot more appropriate....
Thunderbolt.
Not sure Mac's will ever support USB 3.
Mac.
Would love USB3 + Thunderbolt.
+1 for thunderbolt!
Add my voice to the USB3/eSATA/Thunderbolt set. Best of all worlds!
The RedStation mockups at NAB this year were smaller in size to the current generation as well (and one had a USB3 port on it) so RedStation v2 should be a surefire winner!
Cheers from Tokyo,
Paul :)
