    Yeah, what Greg said.

Edit: Also what Jarred said :)
Not to be argumentative, or get bogged down in the tax discussion, but I would get straight on this before you make too many assumptions. No matter where the money is, the tax code gives you certain limited options, expensing and depreciation are not an additive function for this type of equipment (i.e you don't get to do both). Buying camera equipment with a multi-year life is not an "expense" like renting a light kit. Sometimes assets (like a camera or modules) can be treated with accelerated depreciation, effectively "expensing" them in a particular period, but it is still an issue of placing it in service.

OK - so I am not an accountant but I'd join the chorus of those suggesting you confer with one when developing your strategy along these lines.

Now if they'd just get all this stuff in the store in plenty of time to put it in service this year...

This is why rather than being an accountant I decided to make pretty pretty pictures for a living :)

Yeah, that's the most important thing to me as well. Would be nice to hear about the progress in this regard.
Come on Jarred, give us a warm fuzzy feeling about the Redmote Pro.

    Thanks man

I guess you can still go "old school" and turn the focus ring by hand no? LOL

That's referring to manual control - specifically focus pulling I believe as internal stabilization and autofocus will work without it.

Focus also works without the REDMOTE PRO. What the REDMOTE PRO does seem to give us is a nice follow-focus-style knob to turn. It has also been said that the REDMOTE PRO has undergone some changes and isn't the same as what was shown long ago in those old concept renders.

You can assign the electronic functions of the lenses to the programmable user controls on the camera brain or side handle. There's dials, a rocker switch, etc.. You can use the rocker for both focus and zoom, using a user button to toggle functionality if you want. There is (or will be) touch focus functionality with the electronic lenses and the touch LCD monitors.

REDMOTE PRO will probably be a nice addition to the kit, whenever it finally arrives. But it's hardly necessary to make use of the Canon mount or lenses.

You don't need a REDMOTE pro or even a REDMOTE to control the Canon Mount.. the touchscreen, side handle, etc. will work just fine. The only thing the REDMOTE pro gives you is a standard sized focus knob.

REDMOTE PRO has evolved into something pretty spectacular.. and will take some time to complete. There is no expected completion or shipping date, so we would just be making it up if we told you one :)

bit of a naive noob question but as I understand it, only an electronic lens (i.e canon) can be focused with a touchscreen, REDmote etc, none of the existing RED primes or Zooms can do this, they can only ever be focused manually, (either by hand or with a expensive wireless motorized focus control), and this is why we are waiting eagerly for news of the RED electronic lenses, correct?
