I really don't know what the big fuss is about. Where I am nobody complains about markings or whether they are imperial or metric. We just work with them. Have being doing so without any problem for more than a year. We love what we get out of them. Most DPs believe when I tell them we use MPs. There's nothing wrong with them. If I was forced to admit it would be the weight but after a few shoots you get used to it. Otherwise just go ahead and buy them.

I will tell you a secret what is the real reason why they do not like RPPs
They think that RPPs were produced by the "reds" (you know the Communists)

I never argue with the DPs about lenses. It is a matter of taste.
Price of lenses is not an argument for DPs who don't pays for them.
I love my RPPs but they are not perfect as we all know. If someone like MPs and he don't pay for them why would he choose RPPs?

    nothing...

That rate them as hi as the master primes for me as glass quality goes. fantastic quality! and at 1/4 of the price of ultra primes.. !

For me the only issue is they are just too big and heavy for a 1.8 lens... (equal size and weight to f1.3 master primes) but the price / performance out weighs that problem...

I haven't used the RED lenses, but at first glance I have some issues with ergonomics, if that is the right word. The detail in marking on the Zeiss lenses looks like a big plus in operating the lens. RED lenses look somewhat bare. RED might want to consider redesigning the casing. Practicality/functionality should come before aesthetics.

This question of 'too sharp' for the RPPs is easily solved with the new release of Red CineX Pro 5...check out the Alchemy section and Clarity. Slide that and you immediately add any desired softness to the shot.

Yes they're heavy, but really nice lenses...and I love the 300mm. More so when I add my doubler and get some crazy 600mm action!
