We would like the epic to output something else than 25p trough the BNC output is that possible?
Our HD recorder does not like that format, it would like 50i.

copy that my recorder no like 24p it want 24psf. and no, I dont care that its lower in quality!!!! So no replies touting 24p being better guys! I simply dont care. I want my recorder to just work...
I don't think RED has any intentions of supporting interlaced or segmented frames. Like the RED One, it's progressive only. I believe we're supposed to get 720p output in addition to 1080p at some point, but perhaps not...
It's not that we want interalced but just about any recording device works in 50i or so called 24psf wich is basically the same. In other words you get static when you conect the epic to anyhting else than a tv and some random video recorders. If the signal is 50i does not ruin your signal if your signal is 25p enbeded in a 50i is't just as progressive. So shoting out 50i is far more complaint than 25p and the pictures could and would be just the same. So there would be no resolution loss or such as Jeff says. I guess it's coming the updates of the firmware but how do people get around this now?
We would like to have the SDI going tough down converters to DV and such, just for quick on set frame grabbing etc now thats not possible or?
There are several quite high end hardware stuff that do not support the p format.... it's not that anyone wants fields it's just thats "i" is what 90% of the graphics boards asks for instead of "p" still the internal signal can still be progressive. This goes for our whole machine park and I guess pretty much the whole post production industry is 50i as is most converters etc.
But I can change the question... So is it anyone that knows of a simple way to convert from p to i. Does AYA, Black magic or such have a converter that just reclock the signal?
Don't think you're going to get it. RED never offered it with the RED One, doubt they will consider it with the EPIC. Interlaced (or it's evil stepsister, psf) have no place in modern video systems, nor for moving technology forward. I totally understand your point that the majority of current systems out there accept i / psf signal input. Many of these are "high end" or "pro" products, but that's somewhat beside the point here. Interlaced formats should have been shot in the head when digital and HD came along. For reasons defying logic, they were allowed to persist. Same with the whole NTSC / PAL frequency divergence.
Deanan has promised a 720p output very soon for the EPIC. I have the same problem with my IDX CAMWAVE at 25P
Exactly..
I know this doesn't actually solve the problem mentioned in this thread but really surely the future is this: http://cube.teradek.com/cube_family.html
This way you can have loads of different members of the crew monitoring the shot independently and record HD compressed versions of the footage, and all for much lower cost and much greater convenience than an old monitor and an HD recorder
It'll break your heart, but throw out the old recorder, it's fast becoming obsolete..
any updates on this matter... our mixer still refuse to take the P stuff... :(
