  1. #1 trying rcx-p on linux...
    hello,

I was just curious and tried to run rcx-p on linux, via wine. I was surprised to have it start up correctly with 2.0.0, everythig working great, until switching to timline, which caused a crash. but I could load a r3d file, and all the menus and the gui elements worked fine.

not so much luck with 3.0.0, which also allows me to start up, but is much more crashy.

Now I know that a linux port propably is not gonna happen (though seeing through the dlls in project folder, many things exist in linux, like sdl, libjpeg, qt, .. RED SDK for Linux exists..RED ROCKET also works with linux..)
But maybe it would be be possible to test/build against wine, which wouldn't be such an effort. Or we have luck and it starts working w.o. tweaking it at all.. not very likely, but time will tell...

looking forward to try next verison...

for now I have discovered avid metafuze being able to cope with r3d files, as well as virtualdub with plugin (both running in wine), or one could use the Red Linux Toolkit to export your footage to TIFF sequences, as well as GPL liredcode, a red (not up-to-date) debayering library, libraw is also being able to read r3d files. Then there is http://spectsoft.com/sample-page/rave/ravehd/ which runs on 64bit linux and will be offered for free as of 2011/11/14 (yay! though it needs an aja kona 3 to operate...)
are there more options I am not aware of?

    j.r.

well, despite off many not-so successful tries, I can now run redcinex-pro on wine. I have proprietary linux drivers from nvidia installed and run wine 1.3.36. Build14 from may12th works quite well, but still also a bit buggy. I can do pretty anything, it loads and plays files well, timeline also works. (not tested everything..). Only when closing the app, it hangs and has to be killed. Anyways, if red would build and test redcinex-pro against wine, there would be a fully working linux version with very little effort.
