Can my new Scarlet X completely replace my canon 7d for photography and Video? Will it take better photography still? (Shallower DOF, etc), Focus points (with EF lenses) etc... What about pocket wizard and external flashes etc?

Only if you get the quad battery module. As an EOS 1 and 5 owner, I couldn't see myself being happy with a 25 minute battery life on a single redvolt in the side handle. Also, there's no flash trigger. As the sensor is S35 you'll get less DOF on the Scarlet because of the larger sensor.

In theory, the best use for Scarlet as a stills camera would be when you want to shoot a fast burst in natural light at 4K, and then choose from one of hundreds for the perfect shot.

    .
Incorrect. In 5k mode on the Scarlet the FOV is similar to APS-H. Larger than the 7D's APS-C sized sensor.

You should probably look into how professional photographs like Bruce Weber & Greg Williams shoot for Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, and W magazine. I have seen video footage and articles in various print and online magazines about how these pros used the Scarlet for their shoots.

The larger the sensor, the less DoF you have. I too am interested in using the Scarlet for photography. I shoot ballet professionally and low-light capability, fast subject tracking, and above all silence is all-important. I am keen to see Scarlet's performance in these areas, but alas, it's not something I can run down to the Best buy or my local camera dealer to check out. Any thoughts on this, especially from RED employees?

he'll get less depth of field because the larger the sensor, the less DOF.

As another point. the motion tracking in AI Follow Focus mode on the EOS 7 is probably more advanced than the Scarlett's focus system.

    Right.

Ok, let's use terms like Shallower and Deeper to indicate what we mean.

Also, not being able to integrate into workflows using Lightroom or Aperture is a huge downside for this camera. It's still more a video camera then a stills camera.

I don't believe Lightroom or Aperture supports R3D files.

Shooting the SCARLET s with the EPIC will require for you to go back to school and use your imagination and play more with Continuos lighting but still been able to play a lot with Strobe lighting,
just need some trial and error... Okay lots of trial and error, but the results will be stunning that I promise you, and you will not want to go back too fast to still photography... ;)

doesn't the new REdcine allow tiff file photo extractions from the r3d and seamlessly imports them into lightroom and photoshop? That's what I thought I read
