My brain feels like it about to pop out of my head. Sorry for the delay in photos/R3D screenshots. Working on it light sensitive, I will give it a go though.
Here is a test shot, having some issues uploading larger files. This is from the last few shots in the film.
How to argue with folks? How not to argue with folks... This is a question. I too would not take kindly to personal attacks and hence I understand why there are certain procedures in place to take care of business. It's not a secret, Bomb Squad, Artillery Unit, Fire Chief... RED has been modeled after a Military Unit complete with a Admiral and General. Personal attacks to me is tantamount for dismissal at best during a time of engagement and right now RED is plowing through the rest of the camera world -- that is no secret and nobody could be happier than me.
I will not go on a long rant although I will say this, yesterday someone sniped a bit at me, I can take I'm a big boy, that they were a DP that works a lot, like Christian Bale says, "Good for you." I assume most folks with an Epic or Scarlet will be working. I work a lot too, I have my entire life and oh my goodness so does Jarred, Brent, Jim, The Bomb Squad. Folks who don't think RED knows what still needs to be fixed are crazy, they work hard as you know what, every day to make their business and life for their customers better. Complaining you don't have a side handle when you are a DP and no bricks or mount is nuts. I know you want it and it will arrive but, are you gonna roll with 20 Volts and 5 chargers? C'mon... How long are the shoots you would be on?
Last point is the following, most DP with anything behind their name charge a pretty penny per day, let's say $500 per day...
Ok, you lost work... Lets say 3 days...
You already own an Epic ... Ok ...
You gave up $500 per day for you ... Lets say sweetheart deal on a rental... $1000 per day with lenses... Ok ...
So you dug your heels in, and gave up $4500.00 for 3 days of work because you wanted the ability to give RED more grief... Make me angry because there is better stuff they need to be dealing with than arguing with you. A quick question here and there ... Ok ... But...
.... to go on ad-nauseam... Really...
- PE
PS: 4500 - 900 for two bricks and - 500 for a quick-plate = $3100.00 for three days and now you own power that you will buy anyways at some point.
I live by what my dad always taught me..."rather than complaining, find solutions" Here in tiny Tampa, Florida, I know who has what...a couple of quick calls and I am armed with extra batteries, handles, cables, media...what have you... I can understand the frustration..but at the end, where does it get you? Allowing your emotions to take over can get you in trouble real fast saying something foolish and unfounded. Slow to speak...slow...
I totally agree, and I understand too but we are all unique different individuals and I myself have been guilty of wanting, not needing something now. I am not saying folks don't need what they have coming but the reality of a situation is what you have in front of you. I was trying to help with solution and some folks kinda sniped at me, I still tried to spell out what I meant but alas. Typing is the worst way to get any kind of feeling or emotion across. Some filmmakers are also not the most warm and fuzzy and I am not directing this at anyone. I myself love my alone time... We are in such an incredible technological boon right now and now something I ordered isn't here, I sit and think to myself, will a few weeks really make a difference? If I need it sooner I will order it next day and rent, beg, borrow, or steal (JK).
At the end of the day, I wager to bet, renting a little power VS. what you would earn would more than make up for anything you are currently loosing.

REDUser feels like someone is messing with the site again.
We all get wrapped up in what's next sometimes here on REDUser that at times we forget about stuff, stuff like Jarred clued me into last night. They have released over 100 products in the last year and man, they are cranking out product like crazy now. The wait times have decreased dramatically and access to the highest of levels at RED seems to be 24hours a day which no other company does... What we are a part of is something particularly special... Why am I talking and writing about this... I just read an article in Movie Maker about film is still for the Oscars, and how only one film made on digital won Best Picture Huh? That's all you got? It's coming, and fast, so... Keep it up but the best arguments about Film vs. Digital, mainly RED will not last long and in my eyes are a non issue... So what are the things filmies like better than RED...
1 Storage, which I get 1's and 0's vs emulsion which does need to be taken care of and also takes up space. I truly believe if you handle you drives well you will be ok. And with new devices coming things will be even safer.
2 The Look, sorry I like my Epic most for a bunch of reasons, dynamic range, FPS, size (it does matter), and also configurations - Ana modes and beyond.
3 It's how it's been done for the last many moons. People get stuck in their ways and don't like change -- well this is where we are and RED has made the transition as painless as possible. The farther this technology goes the harder it will be to learn it. RED tech alone has kept me interested for more than 5 years now.
People cannot tell the difference between a RED film at the Theatre and that includes Kodak.
Again, simply incredible, to look at where RED is not from where they started 5 years ago but where they were a year ago thanks to working overtime from a few machines we call people, simply outstanding.
Best Paul
PS
Thanks to 'The' Jason Wingrove & Mike Seymor of The RC Podcast for the love on the last show.
... Buyer beware, beware... and be vigilant. Adobe processed my order for windows and I ordered Mac, the customer service hung up on me and didn't call me back when I tried to get them to change it. I am 100% positive I ordered the right version so I called back today once my card got billed for the student version... The are now going to take 7 more days to clear this up... Adobe's customer service is terrible, I would highly recommend RED create their on editing and coloring system in one, I would pay a lot of money for this system. Adobe is on my no-no list now, I will use it until something better comes out but I have never had such poor service in my life.
I was involved in a project yesterday which I did out of love as did countless other filmmakers. Bennett Miller was so great with the kids all of which had serious conditions but for a few hours those seemed to vanish and these kids blossomed into life. Also in attendence was the very respected Dave Venghaus (Dead Man's Chest) and many others. The kids were the stars and it really warmed my heart....
Thank you to ...

My man Jason Wingrove from the must be listened to RC Podcast.
And lastly Tamika Lamison for putting this all together.
We need to do more of this for kids in general but certainly for kids with disabilities. My mother had MS and I myself have a documented issues which let's be honest is no secret, I have a tumor in my head and I will live, I would only hope if things were different and I was younger people would do something like this for me.
